FSU had 16 steals vs Purdue

Without Rob I see a definite loss. I think we'd win if Rob was healthy.

I am most worried about TO's now that the schedule is toughening up.

3rd ranked defense in the country per KP. Tallish but not greatest rebounding Team (FSU 33 - 48 for pU), average 10 steals a Game, commit more TOs than assists, slightly over 30% from range.

Match up pretty evenly in size against IU, rebounding stats edge to IU, and IU more prolific scoring. FSU backcourt responsible for 2/3rds of FSU's scoring (and 70% of their steals) as opposed to less than 1/2 for IU.

Without factoring in any disparity in competition, look as if FSU has a very quick and efficient backcourt and a serviceable if not particularly remarkable frontline. Four primary guards are 26-80 from deep over 8 games so seems most of the 290 pts. they've scored are coming on drives.

So - IU needs to contain FSU's backcourt, protect/move the ball to find open looks/feed the post and generally be ready for a level of athleticism that might rival their own.

Would be a really good Game to have RP. DG is solid, Aljami usually locks in by the second half, and AF isn't bad, but seems IU could really use another disciplined ball-handler and tenacious defender for this one. (You ready Jerome?)

Am sure others have better insights but looks like it could be a tough match.

Qualifier is that FSU's stat line included four games against Power 5 Teams, including ranked FL & TN (won both). But they just played ugly in scraping/sleazing their way past pU (comes with the territory) and IU has just got to be/is better than that.

There. Threw down the gauntlet and hit myself.

FSU is solid, but not great. Plus, we’re playing at home. They are really good defensive team, but they struggle on offense (31% from 3s on the season). If we limit turnovers and fouls, we should win the game. Purdue played poorly (24 turnovers and shot 34%) and they still should have won the game. They killed them on the glass. We also have the benefit of rest. FSU played two pretty good teams over the weekend and have a quicker turnaround with the traveling.

FSU going to need to hit the boards hard. And id actually argue that controlling turnovers should be a bigger concern for fsu than IU if they want to win.

Unless IU shoots really bad I think we got this.

I'd like to see IU do some bombing runs.

This one's the best (degraded video but the real reason Self left for KS):

Fun as well:

First Team had one future NBAer and wins it all with a healthy Coverdale in the Final, the second had five (Juwan was a freshman I believe) and flamed out in the Round of 16.

Good job.. adding to this ...

A good percentage of Hamilton's offense comes off TO and Steals, take care of the ball and limit the TO's and that takes away a good chunk of FSU's offensive ability. Limit transition opportunities and quick hitters, get them to play half court 10 seconds or more into the clock, and the FG% drops almost 20%.

This is a good match up with two long big quick athletic teams.. should show us where we're at. Hall should be rockin ..

Jesus. Could you be a more condescending piece of crap?

Geesis? Could you make a single post germane to IU Hoops? All the trying to convince yourself you're clever at others' expense is setting the bar really low. It's a BB forum - doubtless better places for therapy.

I think much of our chances hinges on RP playing, and even then I'm not sure that's fair or will be a big positive with as little as he's played. I think at the end of the season, we'd match up well, but with this being our first real game, it becomes a crapshoot how we'll respond to some adversity. Still, I like our chances a lot better with RP playing.

some interesting intangibles in this game.

pros for our Hoosiers:
1. Playing in AH yet again. The hall will be rocking. It’s a venue that we are comfortable in-has FSU ever played in AH?
2. rest/preparation time edge to IU
3. Something to prove, motivation factor. FSU hasn’t played a particularly grueling schedule, but this game stands out for IU pretty dramatically. This game has to have been circled on our calendars for months. For them? Yes, IU is a storied program, but this Game looks like one of a few in their early tests. I expect them to walk into the hall as if this is just another game. It won’t be for us.
4. Foul shooting. I expect a big differential here, for IU. This has been a trademark for IU this year, and I expect it to continue in another home game. They’ll be in foul trouble.

and for FSU
They’ve been tested. This is pretty obvious. Adversity for IU has been worrying about a team cutting into a double digit lead in the second half. If we get punched in the face, how to we react? In a game with multiple late lead changes, do we keep our cool? There’s a part of me that worries this team will revert back a little to last years jeckle and Hyde group (fear of the “here we go again” mindset ).

all told, from an intangibles standpoint I like the Hoosiers in this one. The teams seem fairly evenly matched, but the intangibles seem to me to point to a relative stress free 12 point W. I don’t see us losing much in AH (it at all) this season. We won’t on Tuesday.

now, if this game were on the road, I’d see it differently. And we will have to venture out of the friendly confines of the Hall some day.

I'm going to put some cash on the Hoosiers. Where's my bookie?

Love the analysis and confidence. I don't see a 12pt win, but I am thinking we do get the W. Hopefully we'll feed off the crowd and FSU will be tired and awed by the crowd. I think Devonte and Al will make 3s and our FT form for the season will resume in that 75% range. FSU will be physical, but I like how TJD has played so far and hoping he'll pick it up a notch to match the comp. Should be a fun environment... hope it's a fun outcome!

It will be interesting to see how the team handles a close game down the stretch if it comes to that. If no Rob then I'm kind of worried about turnovers.

He's more needed on defense. He sets the tone with his on ball pressure and in the early games where he played there was a noticeable difference in how good we were on that end with him vs without.

I'd like to see us come out of the gate fast and furious get the crowd into it, and roll these guys.

As good as they are on defense, they're just as bad on offense. If we can keep them from running off of TO's and getting easy shots early in sets or transition, they'll struggle in half court. It's paramount we take care of the ball ..

Last year, that would have worried me. We have at least 2 guards capable of getting the ball up the court. Most of the turnovers have been bad post feeds or just sloppy play (mostly in games we were way up). RP would, certainly, help, but the pack line is pretty well designed for exactly what FSU tries to do..... I like the matchup.....

Poor baby are you intimidated by your lack of understanding.

Regurgitating basketball reference does not make you knowledgeable, as much as you might like to think it does.

Remember when Farva completely pantsed you when you tried to argue Oladipo wasn't a good defender?

I would pull up the thread in question but you hide your posting history because you're a coward.

You joined in October. Who were you before that and why did you change names? Banned? Bored?

I thought it was obvious. My handle used to be IDontWannaLargeFarva. I was one of the better posters on this board before being cut down in my prime.

Ringing any bells?

You should have to do something seriously bad for business to get banned on this site. Makes no sense.

In Indiana you can make it legal using Dradtkings Sportsbook.

Interesting the same day Indiana voted to legalize betting in Indiana our local bookie of over 35 years was raided and arrested. Most everybody in town frequented his Bar including law enforcement.

Unusual that anyone here admits to a new name so cudos for that. Why did you change your name?

I thought it sounded like he got permanently banned. With the hateful insulting stuff I’ve seen posted on these Forums I didn’t think banning was even possible.
