From reading threads the past few days I see that the same opinions exist on Dear Leader

Regardless of how authoritarian he is becoming. Forget the fact that there is fraud and waste that need to be expunged. This is definitely true. But usurping the constitution isn’t the way to go about things. How apoplectic would Trump’s disciples be if a lib was doing this. We should all be apoplectic at any leader trying to break down the checks and balances our founding fathers were astute enough to put in place. It doesn’t bother me what Trump is doing because he’s a buffoon and predictable. It bothers me how many citizens are ok with this destruction of our republic

Where were you when Grandpa Joe and BO were passing EOs at alarming rates? Pardoning those before they were even investigated for crimes?

Why does it bother you so much what other people think? Everyone is entitled to think how they want to think whether you agree with it or not. I disagreed with almost everything biden did but what can you do.

We have a chief executive who is acting like a chief executive. Everything he is doing is within his executive and administrative authority.

Democrats love to talk, discuss, study, form committees, have “conversations,” perseverate, and worry about “communities” when considering any solution to any problem. Trump acts. Scary for you, I know.

Translation:

The non-profit my daughter works for went from "temporarily suspended" to "on the permanent chopping block".
Only reason I mentioned her job was this : I have a lot more knowledge about refugee resettlement than most, and despite the fraud that certainly occurs in the upper echelons of these NGO’s, the people on the ground are doing really good work selflessly and tirelessly for humanity. Find the fraud and stamp it out, but don’t destroy the good that is being done

I’m not sure that the Constitution has been violated. Not yet, anyway. We’ll see how things unfold.

But somebody else asked this question earlier if it was Soros seeking access to find government payments to cut at Kamala Harris’s behest, rather than Musk doing it at Trump’s behest.

I can’t imagine being upset by it. How the hell else are we going to get any cuts?

Congress sure as hell isn’t going to do it. They never have - they’re the authors of the mess we have. And people have been trying for as long as I’ve been alive. Nothing. Just more hurtling towards disaster.

I’m starting to understand why Mitch Daniels has advocated for restoring impoundment power to the presidency. I’d love for presidents to have it, whatever their party - make what Congress passes a maximum. And let the President have a de facto line item veto.

In fact, I’d be 100% in favor of an amendment giving the POTUS a real line item veto. No Dem states would give that to Trump. But maybe the next president?

We have got to cut costs. One way or another.

I seriously doubt their intention is to fully stop funding any and all NGOs.

One other thing I would say on this…

My guess, if a Dem was doing this, is that they’d threaten to cut things that everybody cherishes to get people to scream for not cutting things — so as to spare the things that the pols themselves actually cherish.

It’s why anytime state/local governments start talking about cuts, the defenders of government largess will ask people what they’re going to do about police/fire, and art and music classes at schools.

We’ve done pretty well on this score in Indiana. But look at the public sector bloat in Illinois. They even have a $140B hole in their public pension. That’s what they’re really protecting…not the very notion of even having firemen or art classes.

But people fall for this.
