From Fort Moore back to Fort Benning is a name change I do not support.

My wife's family had ties to General Hal Moore. The two families were friends and my wife's father was Hal Moore's Chief of Staff when at Fort Ord. I've heard many stories from my wife, her brother, and her dad about Hal Moore and his family (they are who my wife remembers most since they were kids and played together). My copy of "We Were Soldiers Once . . . And Young" is signed by Hal Moore. It was happy news when Fort Benning was renamed Fort Moore.

Back to Benning. It's a different Benning which is good, but Fort Moore was an appropriate name. He was a fighter and patriotic American:

By the way, renaming bases isn't costless. It costs a lot to change all the branding. Couple million maybe. A million here and a million there, and it soon adds up to some real money, right?

I agree. It should have stayed Fort Moore. These name changes kind of piss me off because we all know what the intent of changing them back are. No disrespect to the soldiers who are now the namesake of Fort Benning and Bragg, but if it were up to me it would have stayed Fort Moore and Fort Bragg would be Fort Shughart-Gordon.

Call it Benning-Moore. Is it named after a feminist general who took over AAFES and loves a hyphen? Is it an homage to a lower enlisted guy and a heroic general? Nobody knows.
