Free Throws

Guess the off season will be a bit longer than IU fandom hoped for.......perhaps they can put some extra time in on FT and make use of the time.

how do u know that?
Don't you know what the program was about then? Ever read anything about the IU program under RMK? Who the golf coach was? Why that might help? Why RMK trusted the golf coach? Then why are you here? You're not a student of IU basketball, you're a fan, nothing more. You're a coach?

IU needs shooters. Plain and simple. Guys who can be trusted to hit big shots AND knock down free throws. The "athletes" and "Wow his vertical leap" guys are usually NOT great shooters.

I think the coach during those years brought in the golf coach to help. Seriously.
Sam Carmichael? I know he and Knight were buddies. Was he actually the IU golf coach? I know he was the pro at Martinsville. It was a long time ago and my memory is shot...

Yes. It was Sam. He coached the men's team and I believe later on the women's team.

Thanks. I didn't remember the story, but it makes perfect sense. Knight would bring in people from other sports often. Free throw shooting is all about addressing the ball (stance), smooth and consistent mechanics, and follow though. Perfect subject for a golf coach.

And I think there is video of how well RMK plays golf. :D

juwann must have missed that lesson

Trying to look cool.
i doubt it. he's been struggling and i think someone got him to try it this way. what the hell is the coaching staff thinking? you put a stop to that nonsense the first time you see it. i know people love to say by college, it's too late to change shooting technique. that's some bull. but...it appears miller agrees because i see no changes in the many shooting flaws of players on this team.
as far as free throws, i've seen it all. all of the sudden, a player starts spinning the ball in his hand, standing off center, or any other thing he decided to do. nope. once had a freshman who wouldn't lift his heels off the ground when shooting free throws. said his dad told him that was the way and his dad was his middle school coach.
