For future arguments concerning Fred's impact......I looked at final Director's Cup ratings back to 2003-04, which is all I could pull up.

IU's rankings were:

'12--38
'13--32
'14--36

If you look at monies spent as predicting success, osu, mi, and psu, are right where one would expect. maryland and minny overachieve, iowa underachieves. We should be around 8/9, which i guess we are. A little underachieving relative to other big ten schools but not too much.

The second list should be looked at by the people who say, "IU is a basketball school so who cares if the football team sucks?" Football success does have an impact on all other sports since it brings in so much money. It's no coincidence that MSU, OSU, and PSU are not only at the top of the B1G yearly but are annually some of the best in the county in this competition.

IU actually performs well in this competition considering it is one the worst football programs in D1 history. I hope the next AD puts more emphasis not only on basketball but also football.

#16 Nebraska 142,000,000........#6
#18 Iowa 137,000,000...........#13

#38 Rutgers 101,000,000..........#14
#40 Maryland 98,000,000...........#7

Comments:

NW's #s were not made public, as it's a private school; Some schools, most notably Rutgers, and perhaps Maryland, are subsidized by student fees or from the U directly; the gap between IU and Purdue is large, but Purdue sponsors 4-5 fewer sports than IU....as I recall, 18 v. 23?; RU's facilities are a big drag on their programs; obviously #s may vary some year to year, esp. based on giving in a particular year.
