Not much reason to have a cesspool generating like $10/month in ad revenue. There is little value is serving ads to that board. It’s obviously up to HH it just looks like a silly move. There is a reason most message boards avoid politics — it’s a net negative.

You don't have to moderate, many posters would love the privellage. You just create a board and never visit it if you don't want. Said board would be a pretty easy change for all users, making actual users on their site prob 20 fold. Eventually people will subscribe if they think content is warranted. It is much easier to get a new membership from someone that visits your site daily, than not.

The Water Cooler is an acquired taste, and isn't for the thin skinned or easily offended. The moderators don't make anyone happy, on either side of any issue, so perhaps they're doing something right.

Any new site is going to have to either strictly ban people who want to talk about politics, or give them someplace to do it.

Banning/censoring opinion one doesn't like is always the worst option.
