Fort Bragg no more!

Wikipedia: "Bragg is generally considered among the worst generals of the Civil War. Most of the battles he engaged in ended in defeat"

So you're a fan of a loser AND a traitor. Figures...
Wikipedia....ffffft.

West Point graduate
Commissioned a Lt. Of Artillery
Seminole War Commander
Distinguished service in Mexican-American War
Commanding General of the Battle of Chickamauga

The naming of several military bases in Southern states occurred as a gesture to enhance reconciliation of a war-torn South, and to help avoid the real possibility of a protracted guerrilla conflict in the South and North.

If this virtue signal indicates that reconciliation is no longer desirable, then the result could be disastrous.

Bragg served his country and it's people when called.

The loser is you.

When push came to shove, Bragg served the cause of human bondage.

“its”

What country was he serving during “The War of Northern Aggression”? 🙄

The new name recognizes the contributions of military spouses to supporting our military. Times change.

Everyone is always so sure that they would’ve been on the right side of history.

You probably would have been at the March on Washington as well, seeing how virtuous you are.

I would bet you would be fine flying the swastika above the white house, slavery/traitor loving idiot.

The only question I have is why the party of Lincoln is defending confederate traitors. Did the racist southerners take over your party and tell you what to think?

As stated, Bragg was a horrible general. He contributed greatly to the union victory, though that was never a goal. Your idol once said he liked soldiers that don't get captured. It seems we should like Generals that occasionally win a battle

Fort Bragg was named in 1918, it is beyond stupid to think that name prevented guerilla warfare by the south.

Why should we honor confederate generals?

I know you are a fan of traitors (re trump) but come o

The plantation owners weren’t bad people they took very good care of their slave’s. Much like our prisons do today!

When push came to shove, Bragg served the cause of human bondage.
Remembering that The Emancipation Proclamation did not free any slaves held by Northern or non-aligned states. Lincoln's cause was to preserve the Union at any cost. The issue of slavery, in terms of Lincoln's political task was to come later, to quell dissent among the anti war opposition.

In that era, Irish, Scots, eastern Euros, and other ethnic immigrant conscripts filled the ranks of the Union Army.

They were foreign agents, mercenaries invading the South.

Bragg and dozens of Field Grade officers chose to wear the Grey, resigning Commissions to do so.
They were defending their families and homeland.

Read a book

Occupation troop garrisons were never removed from the last Southern States until the Compromise of 1877. Numerous Republicans left the South as Democrat Partisan 'Redeemers' seized literally all political power in the former CSA States.
The social disruption, hundreds of thousands of dead and maimed, infrastructure destroyed...the schism was broad and deep into the '20's and '30's.

Allowing the area inhabitants to submit names of local candidates of note for naming rights of that particular military installation was a small bone to throw to local partisans.

I happen to share a common relative with General Bragg. He was a cousin to a 4th great grandpa. Most of my ancestors came from North Carolina and Virginia after the Civil War on both sides.

Ft Moore is a good name. Ft Liberty is pretty dumb though. Plenty of namesakes to choose from there.

I don't think this has anything to do with what anyone who supported the name change would have done. I think it probably has more to do with what Bragg and other confederate generals actually did and supported.

there's a difference between
1) teaching history and
2) giving someone a forever high honor by naming an entire base for him, or even by building a statue on the public square, for that matter.
Yeah, no one is talking about erasing history. Using that argument against taking down statues or renaming things never made sense to me. If anything, this is a footnote for the history books regarding someone's legacy.

"From 1904 - 2023, there was an armory named for General So-and-so, but it was changed due to his general douche-baggery and overall support of slavery and other horrible things."

If anything, naming a military installation against an objectively poor general re-writes history to give the impression that he was good at what he did.

But as long as we're celebrating history, does anyone know the address of the William T. Sherman memorial in Georgia?

I guess ignorance really is bliss.
It really is, isn’t it. Change this name, pulling down statues accomplishes jack snot.
I wonder if anyone will be able to research and find that this base spent most of its life named Bragg? And then suddenly start to worship him all of a sudden?
It’s all a feelz thing for weak ppl.

I'd submit the opposite; that putting up statues and naming things after people was a feelz thing for weak ppl.

You voted for Biden didn't you?
I didnt.

Voted for Ford, Reagan, some Bush, etc.

I was GOP before all the Falwell Democrats-turned-Trump RINO’s started calling me a RINO.

But I agree - Bragg was secesh and a bad military performer too. Its like Kentucky naming a gym after Billy Gillespie.
