Every year there is a hype train on an incoming player for a possible break out year. They get crucified on this board when the arm chair, Cheeto dusted, fat glistening narcissists realize gigantic leaps rarely happen from HS to freshman year and from freshman to sophmore. Dont let it be Hunter this year. Certain people have annointed him the savior already on this board and absolutely NO ONE lives up to that lofty expectation especially coming off injury.

Edit: I did not mention poster's names but if you find offense to the post you may want to stand (if you can) and look at yourself in the mirror.

Is Hunter going to even be able to play? I have not seen (and I could have missed it) anything to inspire hope that he's going to be able to "suit up" this year.

I agree with you BTW.

We honestly dont know anything about his status, adding to the illogical idea that a guy who hasn't played will be annointed on pure ignorance and emotion.

Well the last thing I read about the situation was CAM's comments at Huber...and my takeaway from that was his timeline (if there is one even) to getting back was totally uncertain. So yes, expectations absolutely should be tempered...

I understand it is none of my business, but I sure wish I knew what was the injury or problem.
What keeps you out a year and still with mystery? Why do we know about other injuries- ACL tears, Achilles, sprains, concussions, etc?
If we do not even know he will play, hard to predict he will “breakout”.

I thought it was mentioned once on this board a while back. And as far as I remember it didn't have to do with any of those. Might be a health-related issue? Would rather not speculate on my part.

I find this super irritating. In the past when I have brought up why we are Fort Knox over injuries, I got the response of some medical privacy issue/law that prevents the university from disclosing the information. While I am sure that is true, I am also pretty sure Jerome could let the information out if he wanted.

Thinking that disclosing the info is going to effect him in the relatively near or even far future is asinine related to basketball. If he is able to play basketball then thats that, no1 cares what your injury/disease was/is as long as you are able to be cleared to play. NBA teams will give you money if you can play they are not biased based on these things.

So he has been told to keep hush hush? What is the point of that? Next time I see him on a Scooter flossing around campus I will pull my big truck in the middle of the road and get to the bottom of it.

I expect him to be a solid player if he plays(just not next year). For anyone to think he could do better than 20 mins 10 points a game in 19-20 is on that Grand Daddy Purp. That would be his absolute ceiling and something I would be pumped about.

Being an unabashed Archie Miller fanatic, I Believe that he has gotten the Kryptonite out of Bloomington. Each and every team member will now be able to leap tall defenders in a single bound. They will be faster than a speeding bullet-like rumor on this site. More powerful than a boilermaker!

Up in the AH rafters...it's been a bird, it's been a pain, but here it comes... it's a super-duper NCAAT Championship Banner!

Yeah it is a very narrow path to try to be positive but not to oversell. Hope the guys are recovered and ready to play this season.

Archie Miller's system really relies on a PG that is quick, can make plays, can distribute, is a leader, and can defend. He needs to have a great PG, which we will now have, and a great backup PG too. Last year Phin was a freshman. Then he got his bell rung. Really needed a great PG in there 100% of the time. One with experience...Phin is the One. I hope.

I'll stand by if he's 100% healthy and no minute restrictions.
He can average 8-10 a game..That's not some crazy expectation. Is that helpful?
Absolutely ~

Are basketball players so isolated on their pedestals that they never talk to normal, book studying non athlete students? It seems that way because I find it hard to believe other kids haven't heard the word directly from a known source and spread it to other students or parents such that the answer makes its way to some message board for further dissemination. After all this time, we still have no idea other than someone's speculation of blood clots being the only thing that might keep someone out this long.

Your visual of Hunter on a scooter flossing around campus made me think of my neighbor who was telling me of his back injury from working so many years on the railroad. He was wearing a TENS Unit and waiting for an insurance settlement. Fifteen minutes later I saw him bouncing around in the woods on his ATV like a madman and I thought, h-m-m-m-m-m...that back must really hurt now. One of these days I'll see him laughing all the way to the bank. Meanwhile, my insurance rates are sky high and I know the reason why.

Your reference to flossing on campus while on a scooter made me think of those trees in Wyoming where floss actually grows, according to Frank. I'm surprised I haven't seen them on FB by now because I still have no idea what species that might be. BTW, doesn't flossing require the use of two hands? At least, that's the way I used to teach it. I guess with all the new dental aids, you can actually floss with one hand using the little plastic holder designed for those with less motor(ing) skills. Those damn plastic floss holders are now second only to cigarette butts in volume of discarded city street curb waste.

That would be Montana.

You forgot to add that they will all have 48 inch vertical jumps, but won't be able to shoot effectively from more than 5 feet. Oh Wait, we already have one of those coming back. How did that work out for us last year?

Hunter is covered by the same HIPAA laws that prevents a nurse from telling her friends whenever you come in for treatment of hemorrhoids.

There was speculation on what it could be. I've heard a couple things mentioned that seemed to make the most sense. It appeared during a time of high activity and didn't seem to be bone or joint related.

It could be a one time event or a chronic condition that can be triggered again if he pushes too hard and too fast. I have seen videos of Hunter working out. He isn't sitting around, but they are still holding him back. There is no need to push too hard in June/July.

No news is probably good news. It is smart to not set a timeline but let him work back slowly and add to his activity. They may hold him out of contact until well after he is ready to go.

I am not expecting a huge improvement in anyone. Starting the year with everyone healthy will be enough improvement. We can build momentum and chemistry on the court that we lacked last year.

I am looking forward to what TJD, Brunk and Franklin can bring. Also how will DD look after another 6 months of recovering from a difficult injury. What will Thompson's game be like with a full preseason of practice?

Phinisee's off season knowing he will be the floor leader should boost his confidence. It might show up in his stats, but it could have a bigger impact on the rest of the team. The player I often forget about is Anderson. He is the most likely to show a noticeable improvement. Green and Smith need to play like they are capable.

I thought I read once, that it was his families wish to keep it quiet. I might have misunderstood the article.

There's a great Office episode where Dwight is in charge of selecting the healthcare plan.

Not sure whey people don't understand someone's right to privacy...

I expect Green to thrive at the 2. I expect nothing from Smith, if he flips a switch starts producing, it is a bonus.

I got the whole story via several private messages from other posters on this board but I promised not to say anything.

Are you that guy with the hemorrhoids? The nurse next door was talking about this guy with the worst case of hemorrhoids she’d ever seen. It was at the annual neighborhood block party. Everyone heard about poor Bud’s hemorrhoids. ;)

Seriously, I don’t recall an IU basketball player missing even one game due to health issues and not hearing what it was. Hunter missed an entire season and none of us has heard what the issue was/is. I hope whatever it is has been resolved and he can play basketball. I’m sure he hopes so more than any of us.

I love Cheetos, but don't think you are talking about me. I always wait till I see the players play. OG was not highly ranked, but as soon as I saw him I thought,"alright we got something here".

No, I was taking your dig and throwing it back to you. And what did you do? You blew up. Roflol.
Your brain dead.

It is You're! Did you seriously not catch that and continued the pathetic attempt at humor. Nuance is your friend.

There is nothing controlling in the term your welcome. That is why I've made fun of you. I don't know where your brain (correct term) is headed.

And to think we actually pay for this. Maybe I’m not one who should talk, but I think you catch my drift. It is the off season, you know. It gets a little lean...a little mean is what I really mean.

I got booted from paying, and now do the same thing now for free. I get limited to a few messages per day, but still get my jollies out of it. I think I should send rivals a thank you for the free 100 bucks a year. Horrible business model that will inevitably fail, but hey that is not my problem.
