Evidence no. Inference….Um, what? A preemptive pardon is evidence of criminal activity?
No it isn't -- no more than somebody asserting their 5th Amendment right against self-incrimination is.
I can go for that. Yes, there is an inference of it. But that's not evidence of it.Evidence no. Inference….
I question their motives beyond getting to the bottom. I suspect it was the same retribution. But today it’s of no moment and there’s no benefit going after them. Let it go. Pardon them. Whatever.I can go for that. Yes, there is an inference of it. But that's not evidence of it.
At the end of the day, what Cheney, Thompson, Kinzinger, Schiff, etal were doing was trying to get to the bottom of what happened on January 6th -- and, specifically, what President Trump's role in it was.
Is it possible they did something criminal in the course of this? Maybe.
Is that why Trump and his supporters want them brought under legal scrutiny? No, it's not. It looks like nothing more than retribution to me.
Well, I certainly agree that it should be let go.I question their motives beyond getting to the bottom. I suspect it was the same retribution. But today it’s of no moment and there’s no benefit going after them. Let it go. Pardon them. Whatever.
I do have an issue with the temporal element of the family pardons and I don’t think fauci should have been pardoned. Everything surrounding the investigation into Covid was delayed, politically sanitized, not prioritized, etc.
Fair takeBut I don't think they were doing what they were doing out of retribution of anything he did to them. I think they were doing it to drive a stake through the heart of Donald Trump's political career.
I honestly never thought he bore all that much direct responsibility for January 6th. I don't think he incited rioters to storm the Capitol building as they did and cause all the property damage and physical injuries, put Members of Congress under threat, put Capitol Police under threat, etc. The primary responsibility for that lies with the people who did it. They were criminally prosecuted, and rightly so.
But I do think he bore some indirect responsibility for it. For starters, he insisted, despite all the evidence to the contrary, that the election was stolen. And he cajoled the demonstrators that day and encouraged them to exert pressure on Congress, at the Capitol, to not certify the election.
Because he had this indirect responsibility, it's perfectly understandable that Congress would hold a public inquiry into the events and his role in instigating them....even if their primary motivation was political (when aren't Congressional investigations political?).
It a sad situation and not great for the country, but then again, neither is a promised RETRIBUTION TOUR by an incoming administration...will democrats going forward be fine if the outgoing presidents sign preemptive pardons for all family, friends and associates?
Can you find a link since the election where Trump says his administration is going on a retribution tour? Investigating why 1-6 committee documents are destroyed is reasonable. I guess Hillary Clinton made the standard that bleach bitting documents is fine.It a sad situation and not great for the country, but then again, neither is a promised RETRIBUTION TOUR by an incoming administration
Yes.If folks that received these preemptive pardons are called before congress or the senate and commit perjury, can they be prosecuted?
Brookings is a GOP organization? ROTFLMAO.Of course you do.
Once, just once, I'd like to be surprised by a stand you take on a position that breaks either Dem or Pub.
5th Amendment is not the same as a pardon. Not even close.Um, what? A preemptive pardon is evidence of criminal activity?
No it isn't -- no more than somebody asserting their 5th Amendment right against self-incrimination is.
The dodge is unsurprising too.Brookings is a GOP organization? ROTFLMAO.
FWIW which isn’t much, the republicans should forget about all investigations of the past.Yes.
hypocrisy in politics will never die
