Fernando Mendoza impresses at Pro Day, draws praise from former teammates

Indiana’s new quarterback, Fernando Mendoza, made a strong first impression at the Hoosiers’ Pro Day on Tuesday.

Mendoza, a December transfer from California, was not originally expected to participate in the event. However, with former Indiana quarterback Kurtis Rourke sidelined due to knee surgery, Mendoza stepped in to throw during passing drills.

The soon-to-be junior signal-caller showcased his arm strength, accuracy and poise, reinforcing why Indiana brought him in to lead the offense.

Yes, and learn to run that RPO game like Rourke did.

I am not a former player or coach but I really think Rourke set a very high bar. He seemed to not make mistakes (perhaps the best quality a QB can have), had great touch, and not only avoided injury but played thru a usual season ending injury.
We are all rooting hard for Mendoza, but he has successful shoes to fill.

But, nothing wrong with impressing now I guess. Get the teammates on board.

Yes I agree. The thing that impressed me most about Rourke was how quickly he could read the defense make the proper decision and get the ball out to the receiver or sometimes second or third option. I’m sure that is the coaching but also his ability to process that information at lightning speed. I hope FM can be at least as good at that part because he has all the physical tools.
