My IU sports message board reading started before “Peegs” on a Prodigy.net site, a very active group IU fanatics. One of its most knowledgeable contributors, especially regarding football, was “Dennis” from Lafayette. Sadly, he told us he recently discovered a melanoma on his skin and died about six months later. Another active contributor “Barb Paulin” from California had IN family ties and came back to attend his funeral, having never met him in person. Somehow, we started emailing and after the funeral she ended up coming to my apartment for dinner, again sight unseen. We ended the dinner by enjoying “dessert” together. I had a sweet cherry pie and she a cream-stuffed vanilla eclair. Looking back, it was a strange, but most memorable exchange.
I was there too. DLW, Stu from Oahu, and others. Miss those days.

That was my last time in Mackey. My PU buddies have never invited me back. I don’t need to go back after that one. I feel like my ticket (figuratively speaking) has been punched and turned in.
There were a couple years there where there were a shit ton of IU fans there. There are almost always a lot but these couple three years it was a large percentage and by late second half it was all red in there.

You 'member when Cav bumped half a dozen old threads when Tamar Bates signed a two way deal with Denver as a UDFA?

Good times...

I was in Mackey in 1983 when Wittman hit a big shot at the halftime buzzer to go up 15. During an IU free throw, someone behind me through a golf ball over our heads and onto the floor. At the halftime urinal I overheard a PU guy muttering about our great defense. PU scored 53 pts the 2nd half but still lost by 4 pts. It’s always a very satisfying feeling walking out of Mackey after an IU win. I keep my head down and try not to smile but it never seems to work out that way. BTW, Wittman and “Kitch” were leading scorers with 23 each.

If I recall correctly, that was the first time RMK really cut Wittman and Kitchel loose for 3 pointers.
