Favorite Live Concerts?

Aerosmith was the headliner at the Jordan River Festival the Fall of '75, before classes started, at the old 10th Street Stadium. All day thing. Only other performer I remember is Chris Hillman.

I've seen AO many times since, but they were really in their prime at that time.

Dylan is like the Allman Bros. Both can be unbelievably great in concert and both can be disappointments.

While I love Bob Dylan and think that some of his old live performances were very good, I don’t think he’s a particularly strong live performer - or, if he was, he hasn’t been in a long time.

It’s one reason I’ve only seen him once, despite having many other chances to see him.

Yeah, Nashville is lousy with musicians and writers. And they all know each other.

The lead guitar player for Richie Furay was a guy I'd never heard of, but he was great. We talked to him a little bit and he had his own band and recording contract.

You rented the whole place? I hate to think what that cost. It's not like they're hurting for business. Did you get it on an off night? I think they're only open Wed through Saturday nights?
It was a Tuesday night during a big IBM conference. We split it with another company that we were partnering with at the time. I don't remember the cost, but it was expensive.

They provided us with a 8 or 9 page list of groupings. They all looked like this below. I can't find the other 2, but we ended up mixing and matching people instead of using their suggested grouping.

SONGWRITER SUGGESTIONS – By Group:

GROUP 1:

Thom Schuyler:
Schuyler has received several of BMI’s esteemed Million-Air Awards for songs like I Fell In Love Again Last Night (Forrester Sisters) and Long Line of Love (Michael Martin Murphy) – and for his song Love Will Turn You Around he received multiple Million-Air Awards. ASCAP similarly honored Schuyler by presenting him with an ASCAP Most Performed Award for Hurricane (Levon Helm). He is also responsible for penning the official Music Row anthem 16th Avenue (Lacy J. Dalton). Schuyler has also had cuts by some of country’s brightest stars: Kenny Rogers (What I Did For Love), LeAnn Rimes (Satisfied) and Conway Twitty (Those Eyes).

J. Fred Knobloch:
Knobloch has had several cuts during his extensive, 20 year+ career in Music City, a couple of them reached the much coveted #1 status on the country charts: Why Not Me and Baby’s Got a New Baby. Those cuts that did not quite make it all the way to #1 got close: If My Heart Had Wings (Faith Hill), A Little More Love (Sawyer Brown), Meanwhile (George Strait), I Had It All (Ray Charles), A Little More Love (Kenny Rogers), A Lover Is Forever (Trisha Yearwood, Etta James, Rosanne Cash) and many more! Knobloch is one of Nashville’s most consistently productive writers.

Tony Arata:
Tony Arata was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia. In 1986, he and wife Jaymi moved to Nashville where his unique, soulful style began to get the attention of people like Allen Reynolds and Garth Brooks. Garth recorded seven of Tony's songs and "The Dance" won song of the year at The Academy of Country Music and received both a CMA and a Grammy nomination, as well as most-performed song in Radio and Records magazine. He has also had #1 records with "Here I Am" for Patty Loveless, "I'm Holding My Own" for Lee Roy Parnell and "Dreaming With My Eyes Open" for Clay Walker. Other artists who have recorded his songs include Trisha Yearwood, Emmylou Harris, Reba McEntire, Delbert McClinton and Hal Ketchum.

*With Jelly Roll Johnson, award winning instrumentalist.

Super jealous you saw Led Zeppelin. I made some effort to see Page & Plant when they toured -- but it didn't work out. Dammit.

Would've liked to see The Kinks, too. Such a great band.

Another one on my "Dammit" list is The Who.

Forgot saw the Who Aragon Chicago 1st time they did Tommy live 71?
Good for you.

Didn't J Geils open for the Faces (with Rod) at that AH show? I was there and became a J Geils fan that night. And Rod was kicking soccer balls into the audience.

I saw the Stones the previous August ('75) in Assembly Hall. MIck rode the giant penis, which spewed confetti. lol

Never got to see the Kinks, dammit.

I saw him at Deer Creek in the 90s and he was strong. Great accompanying band. But I've heard from others he's gone downhill. Hell, he ain't no spring chicken anymore.

Wouldn’t Ronnie Wood have been playing in Faces at that time?

He hopped on stage with McCartney when I saw him in December. So did Ringo.

Thought it was pretty cool to see a Beatle play with a Stone and one of the other Beatles. Might well be the last time two Beatles play together in public. They’re 82 and 84 years old, respectively.

I forgot to mention…

Went up to Liverpool on that trip, too. If you saw McCartney’s Carpool Karaoke, you saw him sit down and play a little of When I’m Sixty-Four on the piano in his childhood home.

On a tour of that house, the guide asked if anybody knew how to play and I wasn’t going to miss that chance.

I played Let It Be on it.

Quite possibly the coolest thing I'll read in this thread.

Yep, Ron Wood was still with the Faces then. Had to have been one of the last times together. Not sure when Mick Taylor left the Stones and Wood came on, but it had to be around that time.

From wiki
Following Taylor's departure from the Rolling Stones in December 1974, Wood participated in the band's March 1975 recording sessions for their forthcoming album Black and Blue.[19][20] Although still a member of Faces, he toured North America with the Rolling Stones in 1975; Faces announced their break-up in December of that year, and Wood was officially declared a member of the Rolling Stones on 23 April 1976.[3]

Thanks. I thought Mick Taylor was with the Stone when they played at IU, but must have been Wood. I remember it took a while for them to officially name Wood a Stones member.

By the way, that same school year - '75-'75, The Who also played Assembly Hall. There was one other concert that I can't remember that was big.

I was broke that year, just paying for concerts. (I paid a scalper $25 to see the Stones in AH - big money back then).

My good friend from HS saw Elton John as AH in '73, I think, on the Yellow Brick Road tour. He still talks about Funeral For A Friend from that show.

And we had the Georgia Sattelites. I feel like I got the short end of the stick while there.

Keep yo hands to yourself!

My company came up with this brilliant idea to raise morale - made a video with our CEO and top management wearing sunglasses with the Future's So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades playing. Than handed out these cheap plastic, brightly colored sunglasses to everyone.

It didn't help morale.

I have a bunch I really liked, but there is a number 1 with a bullet, Pink Floyd Momentary Lapse of Reason tour. Fantastic

2. Duran Duran in 2001. Incredible energy, so much nostalgia.
3. Eddie Money was great--1991 I think.
4. Bodeans--1992. Fun stuff. Outdoors
5. World Party, 10,000 maniacs in Cleveland.
6. Johnny Marr
7. Noel Gallagher
(note-i saw Marr and Gallagher later on in life-post turning 49. Would be ranked higher, but I no longer become aroused by stupid crunchy chicks with hair under their arms)
8. Chicago
9. Asia
10. The Connells

Worst concert ever--David Lee Roth. He's was a parody of himself, voice shot, stupid stage antics. Still lives in the late 70s and 80s. Embarrassing.

A buddy grew up near Hudsonville IL and said the wabash down there was full of them growing up. I think they're shovelnose sturgeon?

Not paddlefish, we were talking about sturgeon, because he was going to fish the Columbia and I mentioned wanting to go sturgeon fishing at some point.

Those would be it. Got tons of those.

You never know what you'll catch in the river. Even caught a monster wiper one year. I should have mounted it.
