Fantastic win….. That’s the best center in the portal.

My post about Leal/White was dumb.

If he’s not even going to look at the basket on offense, Carlyle can play better defense.

He was top 100 when he committed. He had been ranked higher, but kept falling.
In theory there's nothing wrong with taking 2 wings in a class. Trouble is neither of them are killers. Still, they weren't recruited because they are white.
Both were killers in high school...for what its worth. Both of them had great chances to win big class state titles their senior years, for relatively small schools. Anthony had more help than Trey did, but both were absolutely killers in high school. Especially Anthony.

That play pissed me off so much. He actually passed it to Kanaan who hit a three. Was a horrible play though, he had an easy layup.

But when he is in, he thinks his job is just to feed others. Which in a way is good, but not so much that you don’t take a freaking layup.

I think JR would have done better at IU than Woody. Both had never coached a college game.

I'm from the opposite side of the state, so I haven't really seen a ton of South's games. But JR has had quite a lot of HS success. I would think that translates better to 18-22 year olds in college better than NBA experience does. With NIL pulling a big portion of the recruiting weight, if JR is a good teacher of the game (he seems to be), he'd likely do a lot better than Woody has.

Might be extreme but he should be at the end of the bench with the walkons. If he’s playing minutes that matter we’re worse than I thought.

If he was sitting to the right of Woodson helping coach instead of the Statue I that might be helpful.
Meanwhile Stevie Wonder he has played solid last 2 wins.

JR just sits there now. His assistants do all of the coaching.

Don't know. Maybe he's told not to shoot. Maybe he thinks he should facilitate. Maybe he's not confident. Maybe, maybe, maybe.

Just wish he would so we're not playing 4 on 5 on that end of the floor.
4 on 5 is why I don’t want him on the floor much.

Some guys just don't take 3s. Guessing in their head they feel like they aren't a "shooter". Cody was always said to be a better 3 pt shooter than he ever showed, at least for my liking. Didn't he win or finish 2nd in the 3pt contest at Hoosier Hysteria one year? The classic example I remember was Joe Hillman. Came in after averaging 44ppg in high school and he never took the # of 3s I thought he should. We were the same year and I guarded him and played against him at the HPER several times. I'd never guarded anyone out to the distance he would shoot... felt like 25'+, but would guess it was out to 22-23'. Still, you never had someone pulling up 2-3' behind the line in a rec game. And he was money. But, that was with my defense, not B10 level defenders. Thinking Kendall Gill might've applied just a bit more pressure. But I always felt he was intimidated by AH, BK and maybe playing with SA... always a better shooter on the floor!

As opposed to 1 on 5 with Carlisle or Tucker on the court? Either of those guys get the ball in the half court, a shot is going up…usually a long 2 or mid-range fadeaway that doesn’t go in.
All three are a problem. Leal either has to be willing to shoot open shots or stay on the bench. Why in the heck after being in college 5 or 6 years whatever it’s been, wouldn’t he be willing to shoot open shots?

Well considering Leal’s dad is black, I guess this question is silly. I do love that 90% of our fans think he’s white though lol.
Damn Cav that makes my post even more stupid. 😂

No matter the race of his parents, if he’s not going to be a threat to even shoot, I wish he’d sit on the end of the bench with the walk ons.

Very end of the bench!!! He does have some good qualities, he freaking better he has been in school 5 years!! Just not athletic enough for high level games. He would never play in the SEC. Gonna have to beat some SEC teams this year to win it all.

Is it a problem? One moves the ball and creates shots for others, the other two don’t.

Gonna have to beat a bunch of B1G teams first.

The other two have the athletic ability to improve. I am going to go with them.

Leal wouldn’t play one minute for any of the B10 teams ranked ahead of us in Kenpom or NET.

Carlisle obviously has a higher potential for this team than Leal does at this point. People around here are upset that Woodson is choosing to play Leal over Carlysle, and that surprises me. The way I see it, this is the dearly beloved RMK coaching technique where when a player’s ass meets the bench when hes not doing what he’s told.

It's a matter of floor vs ceiling. Leal gives us the higher floor at the expense of the higher ceiling.

Agree 100% with phylo on it being an ass meets bench thing.

I agree about ass meeting bench but I am going to give him a chance. We need him.

He is getting chances. He needs to do something with them. If you come in the game and chuck 2 shots the first 2 times the ball touches your hands, you’re going to get the hook and quickly. He needs to learn that’s not his role on this team right now. Come in the game, play nasty defense, drive the ball to the hoop to score or create for others.

I don’t know that the answer is when Malik comes back. Oumar has had some big games too when playing alongside Malik. But it sure does seem like Oumar is liking having more “space” these last couple games without Reneau.

Coaching staffs job to not just go back to what we had been doing before. But figure out how to maximize Malik’s talent while still giving he and Oumar and everyone else for that matter, plenty of space and room to make plays.

Exactly. Leal plays the role Carlisle is supposed to give and does it better. I’m not sure why this is even a discussion. Carlisle doesn’t need to be a double digit scorer off the bench. He hasn’t accepted that role and he’s a net negative when he’s on the floor. It’s the complete opposite for Leal. There’s nothing wrong with giving Leal 10 mpg and then some of Carlisle’s minutes until #9 figures it out.
