Holy Ballo. Grown ass man. One thing that cannot be argued, sitting the big fella down changed his entire attitude. I don’t wanna hear anything about him just cashing checks. Did you see some of those tip backs today on the offensive end? He is giving it everything he has since coming off the bench. Block at the end was fitting. Tip of the hat young man.

Oh and I will give credit where credit is due. Woody. You woke up a sleeping giant.

Beat USC.

He woke up a sleeping giant until Reneau gets better and Woody insist on playing 2 bigs.

Miles has played tough for two meaningful games in a row. TG was intentional and effective today. Even Woody seemed interested again this afternoon. This is a nightmare.

Wait a minute. I was listening to some guy named Dakich on Outkick. He said he's a lazy fat ass center. A total waste. Is that the guy you're talking about?

I don’t know that the answer is when Malik comes back. Oumar has had some big games too when playing alongside Malik. But it sure does seem like Oumar is liking having more “space” these last couple games without Reneau.

Coaching staffs job to not just go back to what we had been doing before. But figure out how to maximize Malik’s talent while still giving he and Oumar and everyone else for that matter, plenty of space and room to make plays.

Woody will go back to the 3 together at once.

There is an amazing thing that happens "when ass meets bench..." - Bob Knight

Woody should've use it more often.

He played his ass off today! I think my favorite plays all day was him hustling and tipping those missed shots where he couldn’t get two hands on them out where our guys ran them down.

Most coaches probably should. Hard to take out guys you know are some of your top players, but it is often a good move. Totally different explaning to a guy what he's doing wrong and why he's sitting, versus telling him what he's doing wrong while he's in the game or in a timeout.

TBF, and I can't stand Dakich, but Ballo was being lazy... these last two games proved that. Hopefully he keeps up the motivation. It's they way IU player had and should always played, and made IU great. Us fans should demand it.

Woke up or forced in to.
How’s that go with Reanu back in starting line up.

I’m curious..

Hats off to Goode today also. Guy was working out there, made 3s and also had a couple big offensive boards.
Now if Kanaan or Tucker can give that pop off the bench, watch out. Kanaan needs some tough love. Id be calling him a pussy till he tried to attack me if I were an assistant coach. He can take over on D, should just focus on that and forget about shooting for a game or 5.

That’ll be the real test, won’t it. Can’t deny how the offense has looked without Malik, but you can’t just not play Malik when gets back.

Will Malik and Ballo play 7-8 minute stretches and switch out, or only overlap a few minutes here and there?

You have to play both. The question is how.

yep, he looks lost. It's what I said about Galloway last year: focus on D and effort and driving the ball and take a break on putting up jumpshots. He's in his own head and allowing it to affect all parts of his game.

I think Rice should get a lot of credit as well. He was phenomenal for most of the game (until he and Galloway seemed to get tired and sloppy in the closing minutes). Since I've never recovered from cancer, that's as much criticism as I'll say about his conditioning.

Some of the posters seem to assume that either Ballo alone or Reneau alone is enough. I think both must play together to withstand the driving assaults down the lane by the Big Ten.

Today, we saw numerous drives by PSU down the lane against either Ballo alone or Hatton, especially in the second half. That's the same thing Nebraska did to us when either Ballo or Reneau was our only front line player.

We just don't get enough front line defense from Goode or Mgbako, though both have improved a lot in that regard. We played a lot better today, though.

I thought Tucker looked good out there too. He also had a couple nice offensive rebounds and was hustling and moving. Would also like to see him more aggressive going to the basket vs settling for jumpers, but I thought he showed some flashes today.

Not sure I follow. Those drives primarily weren't on Ballo or Hatton, they were largely on our perimeter guys. I'd agree we could use more help from Ballo... (or anyone on the backline), but Ballo nor Hatton are our primary problem with stopping drives. Personally I think we switch too much and opponents perimeter guys take advantage of anticipating the switch or getting a matchup they like. But, I don't think playing Ballo and Reneau together is going to stop our propensity to give up drives... been plaguing us all year, regardless (imo) of whether we have 1 or 2 bigs in the game, because the problem is our perimeter guys getting beat.

Yeah, in fact playing Reneau with Ballo is bad for stopping drives, because one of them often ends up switching onto a guard and gets roasted on the perimeter.

Don’t worry. Woody will soon have Ballo and MR in together to clog up the middle. If he does, he’s dumber than I thought.

He got beat a few times on back cuts bad. Needs to get better at D. He should excel at it. Offense will come.

Rice did not turn it over to one of the best teams at causing them. Did a phenomenal job with the ball and beating the press. Gallo too. Our starting five was great today. I thought the bench was dog shit.

It's an interesting scenario, especially since it seems like his job is depending on these next 3 months.

Knight fiddled with the starters and rotation regularly. Woodson, like Archie, has not, even when it seemed sensible.

It doesn't seem like he has a choice but to go with one big, if he wants to win. If he doesn't see that, my guess is unemployment awaits.

First game I watched this year I thought “damn this kid has great talent and basketball skills”. I don’t know what the heck happened.

I do think he should concentrate on defense, rebounding, driving to the basket and jump shots off the dribble in the 10-15’ range. Forget threes.

Mbako was less than advertised at this point last year. Not giving up on Carlyle. Head scratching Woody having both Tucker and Carlyle out there while Goode and Mbako were on the bench in the second half. Mbako sat waaayyyy too long after single-handledly taking over the second half.

Yeah, but that just goes with the territory for almost all freshmen. Way more concerning when defensive problems continue to plague a soph like Mbako. I still remember getting so excited hearing a description of him from Rick Bozich who talked about what a great defender and rebounder he was when he saw him in AAU games.

I dont know anything about Bozich. But very few individuals or teams play great defense at the AAU level.
Not sure what he was saying based on MM being a disinterested defender in college ball.
