Exhibition vs Tennessee

No way in hell Galloway should start over who Carlyle? Galloway can't shoot I'm fine off the bench but he is not a starter I have seen this movie over and over.
2 ball handlers on the floor, both who can push the ball, and finish at the rim...yeah that would be terrible

When did I say Galloway should start? I mean,I'm not totally opposed to it,but I don't recall saying it. Would it be that bad though? I kinda of feel that Galloway and Carlyle are different, but pretty interchangeable in the fact that each do different things we'll. Why would Galloway starting be so bad? Please give me the wisdom you possess. Why would it be so bad for Galloway to start?

This is either going to be crickets,or pathetically dumb...I can't wait.
Dude. Take a break from here. You're about to have a stroke.

Carlyle is also a decent ball handler/combo guard and I believe played PG for Stanford most of the year. He made some really nice passes and would've had some more assists but often had teammates not expecting the ball that fumbled it.

That's not the point. IU landed the best big in the portal, which is fantastic. But Ware brought a dimension to IU--long-ball threat--that Ballo doesn't have. These days, you need your 4 and/or 5 to have some range. Ballo has little range, and it takes Reneau 15 minutes to get off his set shot.
You want a stat where Ballo is better than Ware? I'll give you 2: 1) winning percentage and 2) post season success. Pretty important ones, no? I don't think Ballo has not made the NCAA tourney yet and has played almost exclusively for ranked teams at AZ and Gonzaga.

Yes, Ware has a much more diverse offensive game and skills... just how important do you see your 5 being a good 3 pt shooter to be? Ware might've been one of the best 3 pt shooting 5s in the country last year: what did it net us? How critical would you say Clingan's 3 pt shooting was to UConn's success last year (hint: he shot 25% on 2 of 8 threes)? Edey's to Purdue? See a trend? It can be a nice feature/luxury, but is far from a necessity for good teams.

Agree. Ballo impacts the interior on both ends much more than Ware and isn't a high usage guy either. Ware has a much more polished skill set that translates to the NBA but Ballo is a 2x PAC-12 performer as well as 1st team defense for a reason. We're lucky to have him.

Agreed. I just think Carlyle is a more explosive scorer overall, and having that coming off the bench wouldn't be horrible. I'm pretty neutral on who starts between those two. I was just making the point that it wouldn't be a ridiculous idea as suggested by this idiot.

I would like to see a 4 out look with Rice, Carlyle, Mgbako, and Galloway on the floor together. Mgbako and Reneau on pick and pop situations might be pretty effective. I am a firm believer that Tucker will be one of our 5 best players though.

I drove from Atlanta to Knoxville to watch the Tennessee exhibition. This post is late because I just returned. Here is what I saw.
  • I don’t think there is a bad seat in Thompson-Boling. The arena was about 85% full. Empty seats were at the upper levels.
  • Thompson-Boling is right next to Neyland Stadium. Watching parking unravel after a football game must be an hours long activity, 101,915 fans trying to find their transportation out.
  • Words don’t describe how 3-dimensionally big Ballo is. He takes up a lot of space, and he rebounded well against an athletic Tennessee team.
  • IU was 0 fer 3-point shooting in the first half. I didn’t count. but I think IU took around 10 3’s.
  • Mgbako was 0 fer the first half. Goode was 0 fer the game. The only way to go for our shooters is better. To be fair, Mgbako had a good 2nd half.
  • Tennessee’s defense was really good. They were quick. They pressured and helped the entire game.
  • Rice and Carlyle’s defense was really good. They pressured whenever they were in the game. The 3 bigs just stood straight up until they had to close out.
  • Rice is going to be Yogi level good.
  • IU’s zoom action needs a lot of work. Tennessee shut down all the post screen options.
  • The game showed reason to be optimistic about IU. With reasonable development IU could be very good at the end of the season.
  • IU and Tennessee should get full props for starting out playing each other, rather than Marion and University of Indianapolis. Both teams now have a good read on their current state of play.
  • The Knoxville experience was well worthwhile: University on the Hill, great basketball environment in Thompson-Boling, downtown theater and restaurant and bar area, post-game meal in a restaurant on the Tennessee river. If you ever get a chance, go.
Went to a football game at Tennessee years ago. Stayed within walking distance to the stadium, the tailgate scene is very cool with boats coming in "sailgating". Went to a bbq place along the river which was very good! Police patrolled the area pretty well watching for drinking, you could only drink in certain areas. After the game it was pretty funny seeing how many whiskey bottles were in the stands!
