Espn to walk away from the big 10

There's the problem with you socialists/leftists/democrats....you eat, breathe and even dream about discrimination, social inequality, women's rights, etc. It's in everything you see and do.

No room for fun in your life when you're part of a cult.
Not that you appear to have any real clue, but I'm not the one offended by the landscape or whining/insecure about what's in it. GLWT.

I think it’s a bit false that a lot of people are offended. It’s more of content inmho. I care about politics but I’m not interested in sports broadcasters making entertainment out of it. I watch the games, documentaries and like to learn about the players. If that includes their views I’m fine with that. It tells their story.

They will still cover B1G news. I’m betting that game day will be at Ohio state/Michigan and others. FS1 isn’t better it’s just not worse. I’m not downing politics either way for the record I just don’t go to sports channels for politics and I don’t watch political channels for sports. I change the channel. I’ll continue to watch sports just like I always have it will just include less espn. Agree with the 30 for 30and documentaries. I just think power just shifted to the older networks and that’s a good thing. Also, the views and background of any athlete is interesting wether we agree on lifestyle or politics. It’s just part of the picture not the main focus for me.
I've not watched anything but live sports or 30/30 on ESPN in years. So basically, the folks who are complaining about content on ESPN are the ones watching the self-produced "content" shows?

That's a bit naive. Plenty that are offended, else they wouldn't feel the need to squeal so loud/often.

Zero interest in ESPN as a source for social commentary per se, but by the time they get to including such in their programming, those topics are already mainstream and essentially unavoidable. All things considered, from what I can tell ESPN pretty much 'stays in their lane' w.r.t. to keeping the focus on the field/court/rink/track/etc.

Like all else, it's a work in progress and public programming an inexact science.

I’d say so. I’m only interested in the substance stuff not full on entertainment. I feel a lot of game breakdowns are pretty bad and they explain things so most people understand. I like more thorough breakdowns like when Urban Myer was on the B1G network. He was great at that job.

Agree except espn did go overboard a few years back and it’s still costing them. They have already chased off those extreme individuals(viewers). It’s the same people who claimed to never watch NFL and nascar again. No media platform is perfect. It’s actually a good thing to spread this around.

Yep, any mention, reference or discussion relating to morality, discrimination, social inequality or whatnot as it involves/effects people involved in sports is "activist" and therefore to be shunned/taboo. Just no way ESPN should get within a 1000 miles of things like Colin Kapernick, USA women's soccer demanding equal pay, superstar commentary on BLM, MSU/PSU athletics burying sexual abuse, etc.

Perish forbid that current events/social consciousness should in any way intrude upon my 'entertainment' experience. Give me an insulated bubble disconnected from reality where I can eat my apple pie in peace any day.

wasn't trying to make it a political debate... As someone said further up the chain, there are a MULTITUDE of places to deal with social issues... Whether the athletes like it or not, sports IS entertainment. That's what we as consumers pay for. That's why their salaries are so bloated. Will I watch IUBB on ESPN? Of course. Will I watch a good Saturday night FB game on ESPN between 2 teams I don't really care about? Probably yes. But will I watch the ESPY's and all their other platforms for pushing their social issues? Not a chance. I bet if their jobs started disappearing and the salaries started dropping for all the athletes and the personalities that cover them... they wouldn't be nearly as "socially conscious".... I don't know that for fact but feel pretty confident in it as truth

As you like, but ESPN is hardly an "activist" network. They may not stick their collective heads in the sand and pretend that contentious issues of the day relating to sports don't exist, but that doesn't make them 'activists', or even political. They cater to a broad demographic (that includes a large number of women and 'minorities'), and the ESPY's aside, the minimal commentary they offer on such barely amounts to more than 'lip service', and hardly strikes me/qualifies as grounds for condemnation.

On those rare occasions when I and suspect most others tune them in, it's specifically for sports reporting, and am content that the vast majority of their coverage remains exclusive to that and nothing else.

Will Big 10 basketball games still be broadcast on ESPN?

You bet athletes wouldn't be nearly as "socially conscious" if their salaries started dropping? You haven't been keeping up with what's happening with athlete's salaries very well, have you? Of course they wouldn't, but as ANYONE'S salary increases they almost always become more impressed with their opinions. And as it relates to minorities, the way I view it, they have been silenced or ignored for most of our countries existence, so to a great degree it's "their turn" and I understand why they want to voice their opinion, whether I agree with it or not. Finally, I watch a lot of games on ESPN and I don't ever recall the "political views" being pushed anymore than they are on TNT/TBS during their halftimes. Total non-factor. I never watch any of the other schlock shows the "outraged" folks seem not to be able to turn off. FWIW, the runaway salaries of pro athletes has almost killed my interest in pro sports. It would have entirely if the NBA weren't so damn good right now!

Only until 2024. After that it will only be if they play an away SEC school or affiliated team/conference. So no B1G team will not have any home games on espn after 2023.

The B1G is going to bury everyone except the SEC, and it’s going to be interesting to see which ACC domino falls first to the B1G and the SEC. I hope ESPN eventually loses the SEC and goes under.

Won't be surprised if another mega-conference (or two) gets ginned up - ACC/Big East, PAC10/BIG12 and/or some hybrid involving one or more of the 'power' conferences and the better pickings from among the mid-majors. In the modern media/marketing world, size matters - don't imagine that those 'on the outside looking in' will be long content to settle for leftovers without at least making a play for relevance.

I think the ACC media rights agreement goes out to 2035 or something crazy like that. If you're an ACC school, you're screwed right now. I've gotta think that only way to get out of it unscathed is for ESPN to broker some sort of deal between them and the SEC and even that is borderline tinfoil hat conspiracy stuff.

Such a dumbass move.

Not a fan of their social bent on the non-sports programs, but whatever, what really irked me about ESPN is the absolute shilling they do for certain programs and conferences. They got to be kingmakers with their basically propaganda at the college level because of their reach. It will be nice to have some of that wind sucked out of their sails and be with a network that has promoting your team as a big part of their agenda because they have a vested interest in the conference. As soon as the BTN came around and ESPN was not part of it, their usual over the top knob slobbing of guys like Coach K became insufferable. So forget the LeBron takes, what did it in for me was having to hear about the same schools when you were trying to watch an Indiana/Iowa game on a Tuesday night.

Could you please keep this stupid shit off the basketball board.

And maybe instead of posting, do a study of cults and what defines them, instead of parroting the dumb shit you read on entertainment news outlets.

Appearing to be a slack-jawed idiot by parroting slack-jawed idiotisms is not in any way related to basketball. Stay on topic Cletus.

TIA..

Typical of your "type" - bully, intimidate and shout profanities and namecalling. You also need to keep your dumb shi+ off of the board, too. tia
