The coverage tonight was horrible. Aside the fact that the yellow playoff logo pops up after every play makes you think there was a flag, the bashing of IU was nauseating and way over the top. They took every opportunity to make it known that we shouldn’t have been in the playoff.

How’d we get the D crew calling our game?!?! And an Alabama color guy at that. F them.

To be fair… IU gave them every reason and opportunity to bash them. Or maybe put differently…what did IU do that would have drawn any sort of praise? They wanted to call a close game. I’m sure they were annoyed with the execution and overall soft play and approach too.

*A one loss Big Ten team shouldn't automatically be ahead of a 3 loss SEC Team just because we assume the Big Ten is a good conference
*Also a 3 loss SEC Team should get in ahead of a 1 loss Big Ten team because everybody knows (read we assume) the SEC is way better conference

It was a long, cold game with little excitement generated by IU. Everyone was ready to go home once it got to 27-3.

We didn't offer anything for ESPN to complement until the last 4 minutes.

But I wish they'd shut it about our defensive line., or our offensive line for that matter. ND didn't do anything spectacular. 2 sacks. TWO.
ND rushed for 193 yrds on 35 carries. Take away the 98yrdr and that's less than 2.8 per carry. We did miss too many 1st strike tackles allowing them a couple extra yards per, so that was bad.

But for ND
-RL did a good job finding the dump off to save downs
-ND safety's are really good.

For IU

D line did good job (except for once). They stayed in front of Leonard and keep him to no long gains but the trade off was he had more time and the ability to dump off or just get rid of the ball. I think our pressure was better than the stats show.

On offense, Rourke was so so very off for 90% of the game. That's all. I hate it for him but it wasnt' ND like it was OSU. He just flat out missed receivers. Again, I hate it for him. He killed his draft stock.

ESPN and ABC are owned by Disney, which is paying the SEC $300 million a year for 10 years to televise games. So, they stir the pot in favor of the SEC. I guess you could say that Disney “owns” the SEC, and Fox “owns” the Big Ten.

Interesting to think of major college sports teams as sort of subsidiaries of these media companies. Schools benefit from the feels.

He tended to fold up as soon a defender got a hand on him.

Cignetti’s punt in the fourth quarter was incredibly spineless. The entire country was baffled. We weren’t playing to win at that point.

Yeah that was my thought too. He has the size but that was an audition he surely wants back.

I get it, but we really need ND to beat the snot out of GA. We are getting grilled today by everyone for that performance. A ND loss to GA only hurts us more.

Everyone knew it was going to be a ND love fest,I’m not a fan of the SEC or Kirby Smart but I hope Georgia puts it to em.
Not so fast, I'll pull for ND until they meet another B1G team, then they can put it on them.

I hate Notre Dame but kind of would like to see them beat the brakes off of Georgia and blow up the narrative.
This isn't mean to be argumentative, just thinking about it out loud. I'm not sure ND handling UGA materially changes our narrative. Now that we lost everyone has moved on from us and we aren't getting much more thought from the football world. I tend to think our narrative is more or less set in stone until we beat a top team.

Can we just wait and see how the other road teams perform before saying IU doesn’t belong in the playoffs?
the margin for error is so slim

forget the eye test for a moment and when the rest of the games get played our 10 pt loss may not look as bad

I’m convinced Rourke isn’t a big game quarterback. His actions all night displayed someone who was intimidated by the environment and couldn’t relax and focus. Bad decisions, missed reads, and overthrowing his receivers all night. Against a weaker team he usually made great decisions and had pinpoint accuracy on his throws. To me that was most of our offensive woes, because we should’ve been able to score in the 20’s, at least.

I wouldn’t say Rourke cant play well in these types of environments, but at some point last night, with NDs speed, maybe Jackson would have been a better option with him being a more mobile qb!? Rourke was flustered with the speed of ND secondary and their DL overpowering our OL! IU was just outmatched in most areas. Playcalling wasnt as normal as it has been all season too!

Every single ESPN reporter or talking head should be booed relentlessly if they ever step on campus. **** Game Day

Herbstreit just went on a big rant about us and how we didn’t belong in the playoffs. He pissed off his own fanbase last week now dumps on ours.
so let's see

will they say every team that loses a game by 10 or more didn't belong?

i doubt it

those that didn't get in will for sure and everyone else can go fvck themselves......they had their chance

we earned our spot

"sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.....sometimes it rains....."

If we think we already know who the best 12 teams are what's the point of playing the games? Just go to the Dr Pepper HQ on September 1st, have ESPN's god-like CPU spit out the rankings starting from 12 down to 1. After 8 hours of focus-group-inspired yammering replete with tactical hot takes that stir the pot, drive narratives, and facilitate third party content we can print the T-shirts, FedEx the Trophy, and turn our attention toward the next installment of sports entertainment (coughs) I mean competitive athletics.

Once we got into conference play, every game was a big game. UCLA was a big game until we beat the shit out of them. Nebraska was a big game until we beat the shit out of them. He performed amazingly in those games. The difference is the caliber of athlete in those games, not necessarily him. I’m probably not getting my point across very well, but I don’t think it’s a mental thing with Rourke, I think it’s more about the quality of the opponent.

IU should have scheduled a top 10 OOC game. Win that game and nobody is saying they didnt belong. IU can prove they belonged, or didn’t, by performance next year.

I think the difference is our offensive line played well against UCLA and Nebraska, and that made Rourke look good. There are a lot of college QB's who look great when they are protected, and they also look like crap when they aren't. It's easy to wait for someone to come open when you can stand back there all day and then scramble to extend the play.

Our OL looked way worse after the LG went out--and so did Rourke. Except against Purdue, but they were basically a MAC level team this year.

Except for the part where we wouldn't have won it, and wouldn't have made the playoff either.

Maybe. Maybe not. I’d say with what knowledge we had at the beginning of the season their chances of making the playoffs would have increased with a real OOC game. Circumstances dictated differently as the season played out.

Go look at Michigan’s schedule next year.. The only good team they play is OSU. If they go 11-1 do they take the same bs we did

Aug. 30 — vs. New Mexico

Sept. 6 — at Oklahoma

Sept. 13 — vs. Central Michigan

Sept. 20 — at Nebraska

Sept. 27 — BYE

Oct. 4 — vs. Wisconsin

Oct. 11 — at USC

Oct. 18 — vs. Washington

Oct. 25 — at Michigan State

Nov. 1 — vs. Purdue

Nov. 8 — BYE

Nov. 15 — at Northwestern (Wrigley Field)

Nov. 22 — at Maryland

Nov. 29 — vs. Ohio State

When you have SEC teams playing 5 ranked teams in conference AND 1 OOC you are going to get criticism…..deserved or not.
