ESPN Gameday headed to South Bend

I got mad when listening to Jim Coyle's show today when Rick Bozich was on. He said it would be embarrassing to Notre Dame to lose to us. What does that have with the past and our current team? That was like Jim Rome saying once that Iowa should never lose to IU.
Are Indiana basketball fans embarrassed when we lose to Northwestern? Same thing.

Getting the Friday night slot is amazing for national exposure. Everyone will be watching that game. Get em Cig!
For this reason...rooting like crazy for a clean and competitive game. Obviously it'd be incredible to play our best and put it to them. But at a minimum, hopefully we just don't crap the bed like we did at OSU. Pretty much the entire college football world, outside our own fans, and probably including a lot of our own fans, are expecting, if not hoping (IU fans not hoping), that we do crap the bed and prove the "IU thing" was a fluke.

Just prove, to everyone, its real...Show the literal world what the new IU football is all about. Win or lose.

I don’t anticipate the crowd noise, etc to be near what it was in Columbus, those fans were out for blood.
The stadium holds 25,000 less fans than Ohio State’s and I think there is a good chance we have 10k show up.

Oh I know...I've been parroting this since before the game was announced.

Less capacity than Ohio Stadium.
More IU fans than were at Ohio Stadium.
ND fans won't be as maniacal as OSU fans were that day.
The design of the stadiums inherently makes ND's less intimidating and/or loud.

To say their home crowd won't be a factor, at all, is absurd. It obviously will. But it won't be anywhere near the level of challenge that Ohio Stadium was a few weeks ago.

I believe Ohio St. is a superior team across all facets than Notre Dame, and the fact we were so successful running the ball on them gives me a lot of confidence in this game.

My concern is that our coaching staff isn't patient enough to grind out 250 yards on the ground, Big Ten style, like we should have done at the Shoe.

It will be interesting to see how many students are on campus still for ND. Will IU have students in attendance?

Couple things...

OSU picking up a first down, then scoring, on that 3rd and 30+ in their 2nd drive was HUGE. If we get that stop, and they don't score, I assume we would have went at least a couple more possessions more conservative. Potentially, if not probably, take the lead in to the half. Completely different game path.

And then the punt game mishaps essentially forced our hand to open things up a little bit. Hindsight being 20/20, even when we went down 14-7, and then even 21-7...I'd have still stuck with the run first mentality.

Another factor was we did get some inopportune penalties, and they did stuff us at times, that put us in 3rd and long situations.

Main point being there were reasons the staff abandoned the overall more conservative philosophy. I like trying to grind it out with Notre Dame as well, and sticking with that even if we get down a score or two early on. Their secondary is better than Ohio States, probably by a wide margin. So I don't think we'll be able to target anyone, and expect to get PI calls, or have legit back shoulder opportunities, like we had against OSU. Gonna need to pound the ball on the ground, and hit quicker hitting passing plays.

When are ND classes out for Christmas break??

I believe they changed the school schedule around based on the CFP playoffs. They're done Friday, the 20th...they'll still have a very large student contingent at the game. I dislike Notre Dame, but that's a very clear example of how big a deal football is to that school.
