We've let a lot go this week. Time to clean it up a bit. You've had your chance to state your opinions over and over and over and over (and in some cases, over and over and over and over) regarding the state of the Program.

I'm going to start locking threads and deleting new ones dealing with Coach Wilson's job status. He is our coach and talking about getting rid of him is against forum rules here. Post it on Facebook or Twitter if you want to talk about it further.

Thanks

Assuming of course they are members, which many are not. I wrote to Mike about you. We go way back. We'll see what he thinks.

Mike is well aware of how we moderate this board.

Anyone who can figure out how to sign up for a Peegs membership can figure out how to sign up for Facebook.

Since you go way back, perhaps you can go ahead and ask him to make you a Moderator as well. Since you seem to want the job based on this post. Feel free. Be my guest, as they say

FWIW, I think that the discussion in the "IU Wins 5 Games" thread was respectful and with pretty good content from both folks who would favor a change and from those who wouldn't. There are elements in that thread that are deserving of a status of the program thread without reference to the coaches' employment status. Perhaps we could have a discussion like that without having it locked . . . maybe after the season's over if now isn't the appropriate time?

At least by locking the thread, we get to keep the worthwhile part of the discussion for everyone to read. Of course, we lock it (and prune it) because it turns or has real potential to turn ugly. It helps keep some balance.

FWIW, I think it wold be a worthwhile discussion to have if that scenario arises. Hopefully, we'll win a few and it will be a moot point.

@Sope Creek - What he said is spot on. With the new format, it is tough to prune threads and remove the tangents that turn into back and forth tests of Internet manhood. So locking the thread when things start to go off the rails is the best method. Then everyone can see who the people are that start the issues and perhaps set to ignore those individuals.

I've never been a fan of deleting content, contrary to popular belief.

Maybe in the off season when things get slow us mods can start a "Best of Hate Mail" thread and let you all enjoy the work of your fellow posters. Lol

LOL that would be fantastic! Of course I wouldn't be listed on that thread.........................................................right?

Locked thread or not....spotting the jackasses isn't especially challenging.

There are some posters here I'm sure we can all think of that we would like to ignore.

I choose not to ignore them because I want to see the same view that recruits or players would see if they choose to read this board. For recruits they may come here to gain perspective on fan bases for schools they are considering.

May not make a big difference but to me the words that are written here do carry some influence and some insight to the nature of the fanbase. Unfortunately the disgruntled are quicker to make the effort to type in here than the hopeful.

I went to school at the University of Texas in the early 90s. The team was not great during that time. I do remember win or loss, at the completion of the home games the fans stayed and stood and sang the fight song. That has stayed with me an left an impression. Would love to see something like that at IU - something to show that no matter what the fans appreciate the coaches and players contributions.

Sure the Rutgers loss was disappointing...not so much the loss but how it happened, and the fact that it puts our backs squarely agains the wall for the rest of the season. But...we can't change the past.

I hope that the guys aren't deflated and defeated and come out hungry in East Lansing and the remaining games this year.

We have five games left, and presumably at least a few of those with our stud TB and QB at full strength. With those guys and the rest of the team playing inspired ball we had #1 down 10-0. Still a chance to pick up a signature win and/or pick up a couple of road games if we are at full strength.

I hope we get a chance to see that same team that was playing inspired ball up 10-0 against OSU again going down the stretch.

Go IU!

Just one question: What is it about the "IU Wins 5 Games" thread could turn ugly so it gets locked, in comparison to the "If Wilson is retained" thread which apparently has sufficient merit that it doesn't get locked (despite the overt coaches employment subject matter in both the thread title and posts in that thread)?

It's called my real job has kept me from coming back as threads got bumped back to the top. Besides, that thread you mention hasn't been bumped since Wednesday. I never said I was going back and removing posts. We let people vent and then in this very thread I asked that people move on. So any new threads are being treated differently than the "venting period" threads and responses. If those threads get bumped, perhaps I will lock them as well. Besides, Relax and ask Peegs if he needs another mod if you wish to help. :)

I kind of figured it was a time allocation issue. No worries.

As for being a mod . . . I think there are a few here who might have concerns with that, based on my past history moderating the WC. ;)

Yes, concerns........

Enough is enough! Can you change your avatar? I get it but .... it doesn't look like bacon ... it looks like poop. You being an IU football mod I would suggest something else.

Great Decision. Obviously, I'm not a frequent poster, but am a daily reader, except for the last week. The loss reminded me of the Minny loss a few years ago, in terms the sick feeling I felt in my gut afterwards, but just like the players, have to shake it off and move on to the next week. No benefit in re-hashing the same stuff over and over again.

Let's move on and Dig In for the next game.
GO IU!

It is obviously a conversation starter. I think I'll leave it for now. Thanks though. Go Hoosiers!

Wow! I remember a long time ago in a galaxy far far away you could discuss anything on the football board. I haven't posted on this board for 10 years. We are as soft on this board as the 4th quarter defense. Go IU hope Kevin Wilson stays for the next 30 years.

It's good to have you back, Jedi, but that's been the rule for a long time. The board is better off for it because nothing good comes from people constantly calling for the coach's head. We're pretty lenient about most everything else.
