Key year with the overall development of the team. Yes it's key they win and get to a bowl game.
Back in the spring, Demetric Camiel was starting at LG and Tim Gardner was playing RT. It generated a lot of talk and discussion. Perhaps it was for the coaches to see options on the field. What couldn't and couldn't be done. Ben Bach was starting at corner.
Fast forward to fall camp and Camiel is currently back at RT and Fant has apparently re-emerged as a potential starter.
Camiel at RT does several things. It gives IU a seasoned player at a key position instead of a guy with zero experience. It allows Gardner a chance to get early time in reserve during the pre-conference season.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Jacob Bailey get a lot of time at Camiel's spot and bringing along the young guard in the same situation as Gardner. Jake's knee is obviously key. but he played very well when he was healthy.
As for the secondary.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a lineup that maximizes experience initially and rotate the young guys in to get their feet wet early. Dutta, Fields/Walton to go with Fant and Padmore initially. But with the "kids" rotating in quickly as the games allow.
Of course, I'm just a guy and we'll see how this plays out. It does occupy 10 min waiting to see for real.
Go IU football.
