Dusty getting a new deal at UM

We will have to wait and see how this search ends up, but Indiana May have really cost itself by not making the move any good business would have made a year ago.

We couldn't fire a legacy coach that happens to be African American with a 3m dollar NIL budget, then hire someone, probably white, and give them 7m dollars to build a team. We had to let it play out, and get the chum in the water for this hiring cycle. Woody and crew can never say he didn't have every chance now.

I wish people would relax.... Dusty May signed a 10 year extension with FAU, and then a year later, went to Michigan. His extension could be for 20 years....it doesn't matter. What matters is his buyout. Dusty's buyout with his old UM contract was 5M, and now it's 7.5M. That's about half of Cronin, Oates, Buzz Williams, etc.
He’s not coming to IU. He used the situation to get a better contract. Good for him. But he’s gone.

Nobody good is leaving their job to come here.

We’re going to end up with Tom Crean 2.0. A .63% type winner who makes the tourney 2/3 years. It’s who we are now.

If our $ can’t lure Dusty, the days of even thinking we’re elite are over.
Pitino said beard is the best coach out there for IU

To be fair, I think the NIL payroll was closer to $5 million. But I digress.

Dusty evidently would be much more well received if he did not rebound for Bracey Wright in 2003 in practice as a GA. The guy takes FAU to the final 4, and turns around Michigan on a dime, but he is not a quality hire? The whole IU or non IU background is overblown. They do not need an IU guy. They do not need a non IU guy. They need a guy who has proven himself irregardless of his affiliation to IU. Penalizing him because of Woodson is nuts. Woody did not even know Fife's first name! He probably had no idea May had IU ties. Hell, he may of thought IU played MSU that night. He has got those schools confused before in the Big 10 tourney.

I wished for one of 2 things. Dusty to sign this extension or my prostrate to shrink. Lucky for me, the 5 times I get up tonight to p*#$ I'll be happy. I am surprised though.
If you drink enough after this season you can p#ss yourself in bed and you won’t even wake up.

Go get Pitino for a few years and get the IU brand back and then find the right guy
If you haven't watched that Pitino interview, he basically screamed: "I'm not coming and you're fools if you don't get Chris Beard!" The fit is so perfect, yeah, I expect we'll go a different direction.

Dusty's not coming. From what folks who claim to know him and his personality, he's not going to make all the glowing comments about UM today and then dump them in 2 months.

Monumental difference in FAU to UM, vs UM to IU.

Why jump from a good lower pressure gig into the fishbowl?

Wasn't meant to be. Move on to the serious, top shelf....and only top shelf candidates. Should be able to count them on one hand.

Unusual circumstances but I knew some guys that had to meet a group for a long train ride. There was a few hour wait and so they rented a hotel room. One of the guys they met was absolutely drunk. They are all watching TV in the hotel except the one guy is passed out. He wakes up goes over and pees on the television screen and then goes back and passes out happy as a clam.

Depends are a poorly kept secret for senior golfers.

I had a buddy in college that would piss himself on the regular after a weekend of drinking. We'd always say he made his jeans "new" because they'd be back to the new jean dark blue denim look in the morning... at least the upper quarter.

Higher ceiling given resources provided to the program and the coach has got to want the glory.

That said I don’t think he takes the IU job. We missed our shot with him last year.
Maybe a little higher ceiling. But, look at the floors. They have been the better program for decades. He is closer to winning the B10 or getting to a FF right now than he would be at IU. Yes, potentially he could make IU into a top 5 program, but what if his results were like Miller at IU? Don’t you think he is pretty confident that he has MI as a top 20 program? IU is nowhere close to being a top 20 program.

I don’t think history means much, we had bad coaches and it was pre-NIL.

We will give a coach all the resources they could ask for, top-5 or 10 everything. Someone just has to use all this money properly. Hire a good coach and we are back pretty quick.

I said I think he stays at UM. Agee it’s a lower risk job, lower pressure job. And to be clear, I don’t think the IU job is scary or anything like that.

Yeah, I do agree with that, and we have a higher ceiling. But, look at it from his POV. He probably thinks he already has UM as a top 20 type program. There is a risk. I’m sure he’s pretty confident that if he stays where he is, he will be consistently competing for B10 titles with a chance for ncaa success.

Yea. I agree in both posts I said I think he stays at UM.

Welp, with Brad and Dusty gone nobody else really excites me. 😟

Are there coaches to make us better? Sure. But they were the home runs who understood the job and expectations. Just don’t see anyone else out there who’ll leave a high profile job for IU.
You set your expectations way to high. Neither of those were every going to happen.
