Whomever IU hires will be a complete surprise to me, just as Sampson, Crean, Miller and Woodson were.

Seriously, did anyone on this board ever claim to know even a week in advance that any of those four had the inside track?

Also, at the time of hiring, I never got the impression that any of those four was the first choice of the hiring/recruiting committee. Was I wrong in thinking IU hasn't gotten its first choice since hiring Mike Davis?

Of those four, Miller was on a lot of lists from the very beginning.

Davis, Sampson, and Woodson hires had interference by the university admin or the trustees. Not sure about Crean or Miller but when we hired Crean we were looking for any warm body willing to try to build a new program on the ashes of what was left (without NIL or portal, mind you). Miller might have been the most "normal" hire of any of them since RMK.
