Dust May postgame comments

Been to a final four with nobody.
Martin, Davis and Goldin. We might not have known their names before it happened, but each of them now start or did start for a major conference team. If he had nobody then we are disregarding the development that turned each of them into somebody ...

Either way he gets credit .. development is a huge part of coaching that's been missing at IU since Crean, and he was inconsistent. No one in their second year with the coach became better under Miller, and only TJD did under Woodson.

The current concern with May is his teams consistently blowing big leads .. he may lack tactically. Of course that's much better than getting blown out constantly.. and at least his teams aren't boring to watch.

And you admitted you are a tired, old lazy thinker that just wants to jump on the jock of any former IU connection because Warison wants to sniff on the fumes of 40 years ago. That’s the only reason lazy thinkers like yourself zero in on May. Because he has some “IU connection.”

Newsflash: IU basketball sucks. The whole enterprise needs a fresh reboot. You just think that the only solution is an IU guy. You were the same type on here doing cartwheels when Woody was hired because he played here.

Think outside the box.
Unhinge much? Sorry I hurt your feelings. It’s ok. We’ll move on.

Squeaky Mickey Mouse voices inside your head is a ‘you problem’ .

If the dude was .500 in the league showing no clue how to run a BIG program I’d be right there with you.

But I’m not gonna handicap the guy for being from 19 minutes from Bloomington and in contention of winning a big ten title. His first year in the league.

No reason to get all defensive with the old, tired, lazy thinking dumb response. That’s as in the box thinking as you get.

Okay, Post Avenger. Challenging me and arguing against the obvious. Impressive. If you don't like a reply, scroll on.
Ok, Message Board rule maker. Try reading a post before making assumptions. I posted the video because I felt like people here would be interested in hearing what he said. Personally, I think it means nothing. Which is why I jokingly said to “overanalyze what he said and look for tea leaves.”

✌️

I think IU hiring Dusty would be like Purdue hiring Matt Painter with a few years of seasoning and less risk. We’d probably enjoy solid teams for the next 20 years or so.

I would be happy with any solid teacher of the game who has no history of assault or abuse.

Tell me this (and I do apologize for going back at you) but……

I’m really curious your line of thinking? What does being “19 minutes from Bloomington” have to do with any of this? Why is that a factor? What if IU guy got a good coach that was 1900 minutes from Bloomington? Is that a negative in your book?

Our next hire could be an alien from space. If that alien proved he won in space, I’m open.

Now… can you imagine that alien actually being 19 minutes away from the Mecca and in contention of winning the the big ten in his first year, while rebuilding a roster.

And he’s a young alien with years to go….

It’s not like what he’s doing is a roster of veterans gifted to him. Michigan finished near last a year ago.

Dude is competing. And he’s young. And he had ties. What’s not to like?

So if you’re good with an alien that’s won in space, then what about the other younger coach that has really won a lot in Division II and continues to win a lot in Division I. When Cignetti was winning last year, many were saying IU’s competition wasn’t that good. He stated IU can only play the teams that are on the schedule. Same with McCollum, his team can only play the games that are scheduled…and guess what, he and his players are doing their part to be the best. If Drake makes the tournament and gets blown out in first or second round, then I’ll reconsider whether I believe the guy should get the chance at IU.

I’m just wary of his time in the position of head coach. I know I made the comments about his “personality” and that shouldn’t factor in at all. I do agree with you there. That wasn’t meant to be the main factor of my comments. I like coaches who have spent time, 10+ years head coaching with several years of success. Dusty is in his 7th year as a head coach and 4 of those years were pretty mediocre. Maybe he’s developing and will be the next Coach K or RMK that we’d all kick ourselves for missing out on? Or, maybe he’s like a Tom Crean who also only had 8 years under his belt before IU and one magical run to the Final 4? The parallels in their tenures at FAU and Marquette are eerily similar. May’s first 4 years at FAU were pretty bad. But credit where credit is due, his last 2 were good.
Crean had a .664 record at Marquette and those first years looked an awful lot like May’s at FAU, where he finished .646.

That parallel makes me nervous.

I admit May is doing a pretty good job with Michigan, but IU could have had a chance to get him. He’s in his first year and making pretty good $. I just don’t see him wanting to make the move to IU this soon. Plus he would have to start all over again with the dumpster fire IU is at right now.

Tom Crean had a future HOF player on his roster

He started this season with the worst team in the league.
