Read some stuff from a Google search … nothing definite on Smock … to explain leaving the team for a second time.I know that. Did you read the article I linked?

Was it Fife that bit someone while fighting for a loose ball? It was a different time and there wasn't a replay to review. It was kind of funny at the time.
Oh, we'd need a big run in the B1G tourney if not winning the whole thing to get into the dance. You've been very clear that you think we missed the tourney after Neb.
So X can pound sand.
Yes, but I dont recall him having the issues X had before all of that. Nor Michael Lewis with the Jadlow pass, or others. Was it Fife that bit someone while fighting for a loose ball? It was a different time and there wasn't a replay to review. It was kind of funny at the time.
So this is basically what I said earlier and you called me out saying this:Oh, we'd need a big run in the B1G tourney if not winning the whole thing to get into the dance.
X had a hand once in helping a dead in the water IU team make the dance after a disappointing year.
X and Trayce willed that team into the dance. Woody remembers.
I can't wait until X is in IU's rear view mirror but Woody will not boot X because he's the last chance IU has at dancing this year. He IS capable of coming up big, even though he does it so rarely these days.
Dude I hate to break this to you, but however many wins we get in the conference ain't gonna be enough to get us into the Big Dance.
Just ain't happening this year and if getting boat raced by Nebraska and Rutgers didn't show you this, with X on the floor while we were getting our asses kicked (and Johnson was AWFUL for 95% of yesterday's game while he was on the floor) then I'm not sure what to tell you.
This team isn't good and our guards suck. With X or without X, our guards suck.
So Biting someone is not worse than this? Are you insane? I still don't even know what he really did. The other player had his hand under his legs as well. The pulling on the way out was most likely them hand wrestling. Really all you can see is X getting a butthole poke and cup.Yes, but I dont recall him having the issues X had before all of that.
Yeah?So this is basically what I said earlier and you called me out saying this:
But biting is far worse.Yes, but I dont recall him having the issues X had before all of that. Nor Michael Lewis with the Jadlow pass, or others.
I don't recall the biting incident. But it's as bad, I agree. IDK about "far worse" unless he drew blood or something. But biting is far worse.
Did someone say we do?I don't recall the biting incident. But it's as bad, I agree. IDK about "far worse" unless he drew blood or something.
But regardless, we don't accept something bad just because someone else had done it (or worse).
I actually had to give him extra credit for that T…. That’s tough to doRemember, X received a technical foul during a game last year when he was injured sitting on the bench in street clothes. How that just got apparently ignored and tolerated astounds me…
Never said the would be dancing. I know that our guards suck with or without X, but there is no doubt we suck worse without him.Yeah?
This team won't be dancing.
They'll have to win the B1G tourney to be dancing.
Woodson will not kick X off the team because he was a big reason IU made a deep B1G tourney run 2 years ago.
This X ain't THAT X.
Woody ain't gonna suspend X in the hope that the X from 2 years ago re-emerges and leads IU to a B1G tourney title.
That isn't going to happen.
I thought that, then I watched him vs Nebraska and Rutgers. I rarely blame 1 single guy for losses, but if I had to put the brunt of why we lost those 2 road games on 1 guy, I'd probably put that on X.Never said the would be dancing. I know that our guards suck with or without X, but there is no doubt we suck worse without him.
You got it right. I seem to recall that those that didn't fess up in Alaska got the boot and those that came clean got a 2nd chance. Cox could flat out play, a total stud.Google help from The NY Times.
My memory isn’t a sharp as it used to be, but I was pretty confident Roberson, Baker, and Cox got the boot. Several others indefinitely suspended, including our current leader of men.
The article says Trent Smock got booted at some other time. I’m sure I’d forgotten that one.
I agree with this. And as crazy as it seems Dug McDaniel is suspended for road games only…I thought that, then I watched him vs Nebraska and Rutgers. I rarely blame 1 single guy for losses, but if I had to put the brunt of why we lost those 2 road games on 1 guy, I'd probably put that on X.
Maybe we just play the guy at Assembly Hall, I don't know.
With his experience, he should be a difference maker on the road for IU.
He's been a difference maker alright. He might have been both Nebraska and Rutgers' best players on the nights we played them.
I know he's been injured, but sheesh. How does he play so well vs OSU and look like he's actually trying to personally lose games on the road?
Loved the fact that he was never "checked out" actually. You are grasping at straws on that one.Remember, X received a technical foul during a game last year when he was injured sitting on the bench in street clothes. How that just got apparently ignored and tolerated astounds me…
noWe are good when X is good. We are terrible when X is bad. We are stinking Gawd awful when he doesnt play. I think we all see the hand writing on the wall on this season regardless. BUT before the UW game last year all was lost also. So who knows? He may start and get booed but if he puts up 20 against Minny with a 4-1 A/T ratio he’ll be a hero again like he was after OSU. Let’s just admit we’re all fickle
i guess different standard for some people.Yes, but I dont recall him having the issues X had before all of that. Nor Michael Lewis with the Jadlow pass, or others.
A high school teammate of Woodson at broad ripple. And yes he was good. You got it right. I seem to recall that those that didn't fess up in Alaska got the boot and those that came clean got a 2nd chance. Cox could flat out play, a total stud.
Lewis wasn’t sneaking out with freshman’s on the team on an important road trip to Northwestern. Lewis wasn’t driving 90 on walnut in Bloomington. Different standards 😢i guess different standard for some people.
He ought to get a 4 game suspension. What say you? If this thread even stays up.
You must not have been around during the Knight years. He prided himself on running a clean program. He had no tolerance for cheaters. To suggest hiring known cheaters tells you just how far the program has dropped. I really hope they don't put winning above integrity.I don’t disagree. I guess ultimately I just want Indiana basketball to win. I don’t really care that much about the “squeaky clean image” stuff that it seems some people on this board care so much about. Some people on here want X gone because of how it affects our “image”
I got news for that crowd. “Squeaky clean” and winning don’t go together. Bill Self, John Calipari, Jim Harbaugh, Bill Belicheck are the guys that win.
Indiana won’t hire guys like Bruce Pearl or Chris Beard and it’s a big part of the reasone been that we can’t produce a consistent winner
You’re right. I wasn’t around for most of the Knight years. (At least not the good ones.)You must not have been around during the Knight years. He prided himself on running a clean program. Norm Ellenberger says hello. You must not have been around during the Knight years. He prided himself on running a clean program. He had no tolerance for cheaters. To suggest hiring known cheaters tells you just how far the program has dropped. I really hope they don't put winning above integrity.
That was in his past. Are you implying something happened at IU now?Norm Ellenberger says hello.
Thus -- the fall of the Hoosiers to NIT is inevitable because of lack of discipline of a HC.I'm not absolving Woody of anything. It's his fault we didn't land a difference making guard after JHS left for the NBA. Woody tried hard, but couldn't land one.
Sadly, X is the best guard we have, even though he isn't playing like it regularly. Woody has to try and win out, or very close to it (I know, not gonna happen) to have a chance at the NCAA tourney.
Whatever we think of X, we aren't winning big games or making a deep run in the B1G tourney without big performances from Xavier Johnson. Maybe Woodson thinks that the amount of time Johnson has already missed counts as time served towards a suspension.
Woody is not suspending our best guard, even if he sucks.
