Seems like a perfect fit for Woodson just curious if we have any real chance of landing him or if it’s basically a done deal he’s going to msu

I've only seen a couple games. And it was from my own recliner watching online. So take it for what its worth. I wasn't overly impressed in either game. His motor wasn't high. He wasn't as explosive as I thought he'd be. He seemed overshadowed by the other 2 D1 kids on his team. But again, I haven't followed him. I haven't seen highlights or games he's played against other top level bigs, where he might be more motivated to play harder...either for Cathedral, or in AAU.

Having said that, if Painter and Izzo want him, he's probably a good guy to go after. He just didn't jump out at me as much as I thought he would.

I agree. Other than Center Grove, I root for Cathedral as well when I can as I had two grand kids go through there a few years back so have seen him a play a few times the last couple seasons. He's pretty talented with good size and a modern skill set, but he lacks the wow factor. For someone listed as 6'10 he doesn't impact the game at the high school level in the way you think he would. People have mentioned motor issues and I can see that as well but he's not very aggressive in general.

I can see why coaches are all over him, and IU should be as well as he is someone you can absolutely develop, but he's got to find that extra gear to be a reliable high major player.

I think he's just super raw. Couldn't tell ya on the motor part. Seems like one of those guys that will go to college and be a stud or barely play.

Yeah could be...at that point, do you believe in your own program to develop him? Obviously there are some that are more proven than others in that regard. No way to know for sure if Woody can and will with kids like him...but I suspect he'll do a pretty good job at it. Obviously Painter and Izzo have a good track record, overall, at developing bigs.

Reading the Star’s review of his play in the state title game, it sounds like he completely dominated the game. And his coach seems really high on IU being a great fit for him. XB sounds like a big fan of Woodson.

I believe that is what it comes down to.

Very doubtful..
Izzo looks to bigger in Indiana than any Indiana coach..
He sat right below me..Ton's and tons of fans wanted pictures..Autographs..etc.
And to his credit...He meet them all..

I also noticed he wasn't that explosive. Not an overly quick or high jumper.

As for positives, appeared to have a really nice touch, and handled the ball well for his size.

I spoke with a Cathedral grad who was a very good big man for them and still well connected to the school. He was so so on Booker although he's just a junior and pretty young. He still has this summer and next school season to progress. Personally, for a junior big man I like what I see.

Yeah, he is just a junior. And to be fair to him, the competition I've seen him play against wasn't in any way, shape, or form, at his level.

His presence defensively against Chesterton was a pretty big factor in them setting the tone in that game. It would have been interesting, obviously, to see him battle against the Kokomo big.

He just seemed, overall, in both games that I saw, to be a "floater". He got pushed off the block pretty easily a lot of times. He didn't really rebound out of his own space at all. Not really many aggressive moves to the basket. He blocked some shots. He got some dunks and layups on dump downs.

Again though, if guys like Izzo are on him...I'll be very excited if he chooses IU.

Painter and Izzo have developed the old school, back to the basket, big guys. XB is not that. C'mon down to Bloomington and develop your pro style game.
Painter can also open up his offense to get the 5 man off the post as well. Did it with Biggie some. Don't see what he can't do the same, but also teach post moves. Hopefully with the guards coming in, there will be more athleticism to surround him as well. I'm personal torn on how much I want Booker to Purdue.

Booker really needs to hit the weights and eat lots of protein or drink those shakes. On the high school level he gets knocked off the block if he ever goes down there. In college it will be that much harder. He does have upside though.

does anyone ever develop a high motor, for whom it isn't innate?

more so with a guard or wing, but "motor" matters a lot.

"High Motor" is all relative...

But I'd say I did. I was a fairly..."passive"...high school player. Mainly shot a bunch of threes, occasionally took the ball to the basket. Usually guarded the other teams weakest player, etc... I scored roughly 800 points in high school. Well over half off 3s. I realized when I got to college, that standing around waiting for the ball wasn't going to work. I changed my approach, I'd say my "motor" changed dramatically, and I ended up becoming much more of a scorer at all 3 levels, became our defensive stopper, and finished with over 1500 career points.

I'm seeing my son dramatically improve his "motor" as he's navigating through his 8th grade school/AAU seasons.

No clue if we're the exception to the rule or not? I do know it was quite obviously way less scrutinized, important, financially impactful, for me to go into my college with a low motor...than it would be for IU to spend a scholly on someone that might come into Bloomington needing some engine work. Especially when that kid, at his size and lofty rankings as a big, is potentially only going to be at IU for a season or two. You like for those kids to come in fully tuned up!

lmao ............. are they as good as North Texas or Saint Peter's guards?
Gibbs-Lawhorn and Colvin are athletes. Loyer is a top 4 shooter in his class. So I'd venture to Saya yes, based off intangibles. Hard to say until they get to college and develop. Not sure what North Texas or Saint Peter's has to do with this thread or my comment though.

Cool story, bro.

When Cathedral played Floyd Central near the end of the regular season, he had a 6'11" guy on him and he was held to 4 points on 2-for-11 shooting (2-8 inside the 3 point line, 0-3 behind) and 3 rebounds. I've seen clips of him being able to knock down 3s, but seems like he has to be close to the basket to really impact the game.

One big man that comes to mind that Purdue seemed to have success with developing a motor was A.J. Hammons.
I remember Hammons senior year, he had to make two free throws to win. Other team called a TO to I've him. In the TO, Painter asked him what pizza he wanted after they won the game. Hammons ceiling was so much higher though...

I go back and remember Hammons as a Freshman at Carmel. I was a pastor of a church around Indy for a couple of years and WHMB 40 was on tv. I was like, "Wow look at this freshman kid".

John Stewart was my neighbor for 3 yrs on the north side of Indy. This was before they moved to Carmel and eventually back to Lawrence Township. John lived by me from his 6th thru 8th grade. We had a decent backyard court that my young son played on. John was huge by 8th grade. At 6’9” with a big soft body and monster hands. He and his brothers played regularly in our back yard. I saw the skill, touch, and soft hands. But John was slow and non athletic with very little motor. But he stuck with it. Became the best center in Indiana and was headed to Kentucky. Jack Keefer helped him build a motor. Then the tragedy. It was sad. He was a sweet young man.

I remember my team had just got on the bus after our regional game my Freshman year at Northwestern in Kokomo. A teammate of mine heard the news about Stewart's death while he was listening to the radio on his headphones and announced it to the rest of us
