I because I played and coached Football seem to draw analogies from ND football and their year to year defensive woes- (exception 2012)
ND literally every year what seems like 15 years go into the season with two areas (especially under Kelly-ugg) can they get dominant on the LOS and can their defense be much better- again stopping the run...
And here is the answer every year the answer is NO- not against good teams... Why well just using BK- his focus has never been Defense and or Running the ball- the requisites for having a consistent winning program in CFB- He is the typical little man - that loves to think the game- scheme- and throw the ball all over the field... offense- they try everything new D coordinators that bring in these over complicated pro coordinators (talking Defense) that simply rarely work at the core issue with ND defense...
They are simply not TUFF- dialed in and great at the basics.... they try to scheme their way to wins and they dont have OSU or Bama athletes hence they get beat.... the issue is not the players it is year after year Brian Kelly and staff...
As we say they are who they are... back to the running game- if you happen to watch ND against LSU in the bowl be reluctantly FINALLY played the QB who is an real read option QB- they played MUCH better- slowed the game and did very well up front... versus they guy who BK loves to throw the ball with all day long and of course they lose all day long...
Going into spring all ND fans want Zaire the more running oriented QB to start BK is right back to open competition and trust me will start Golson- it is in his DNA to play basketball on grass which at CINCY is fine at ND not the personality of the school and as seen does not win much...
I think TC is exactly the same way- he is a little guy that never played and loves to scheme and run and all that... his abiltiy to get kids to tuff on D is limited because he does not get it - because he never really played at that level... and when they play good teams who smack them in the mouth they fold- get lost on defense and pound the ball on O-
Sorry to bore long wind way of saying- we can talk about defense getting better next year but when it gets hard TC and company will be who they are... soft and not good enough to win those battles...
As for HS coaches in Indiana not liking TC - I have NO idea if it is true- IF IT IS- then we have even more problems- you have to have a coach who connects with Indiana coaches - simply to get the kids who get IU basketball... who are talented... again I have no idea if it is true but if it is... that is a fatal flaw for IU coach I think
Sorry for the long ramble...
