That is extreme generalization and very opinionated. You know the entire college basketball fan base and football as well. Maybe you could be kind enough to share some more of your knowledge. You must know more than Herbstreit about CFB or any analyst in hoops. I am amazed at how well-rounded you must be! You have obviously traveled to many venues, SEC, Big 10, etc. I could certainly learn from you! I have only been to 10 of our conference stadiums. I did play for coach Hayes and believe I know a bit about CFB. You may be a former All-American or a great former coach though. How do I know? I am not about to debate someone so well-traveled and extremely intelligent about fan bases across the entire nation. You obviously are very confident and feel you couldn't possibly learn anything from anyone else. Wow. Lastly, Herbie is an OSU former player and captain of OSU (don't kid yourself about him not being an OSU fan.) Do you turn the channel EVERY time he is on Gameday or any CFB show?? I hope so, if you are being honest about OSU fans and not caring what they say. You also express you know a lot about O$U fans (I forgot again to proudly use the $ sign) so you must have listened to them an awful lot in the past. Is this a very sudden change in your listening preferences? Lastly, you have listed your personal most disliked fan bases, and for some reason they are the two teams that have dominated your team in both major sports. Could there possibly be something to this??? I also glanced at your all-time record vs Purdue in basketball and was amazed to see they lead in victories. That is shocking but I only remembered you have more NC's than Purdue. You probably know the win/loss summary but I will remind you-Purdue 78 wins & IU 38 wins. I am shocked and had no idea it is that lopsided. Big 10 championships Purdue leads IU-8 to 2. I believe when I glance back at this forum the week of the Purdue football game you may even be more "worked up." Calm down buddy. It is not life or death and you will never ever surpass O$U on football. Don't have a heart attack over this.
Focus on Purdue your true and possibly realistic rival. You have gone too far. I have been fair and not degraded any IU fans. You are setting a "new tone" for what I formerly thought of IU. I will and do realize you do NOT represent the majority of IU fans or even the super fans who take time to post on boards. There are always "those." You even have your "own" members posting to you about being snarky. I will come back after the game and quite possibly be snarky with ya pal.
Exhibit A, entered into evidence . . . .
For the record, I live in Georgia among a host of SEC fans - Georgia, Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Tennessee, South Carolina predominantly - and ACC fans, with a lot of Clemson, VA Tech, GA Tech and FSU types. When a BiG team plays any of those teams I pull unabashedly for the BiG team, including O$U. I have a huge respect for Urban Meyer and the way he runs his program.
But the fact is, irrespective of how we view the O$U program or the stellar play of the O$U team, O$U
fans are universally disliked here as well as BiG states - other than Ohio, of course - for their arrogance, an arrogance I believe is derived from playing in what has been an noncompetitive conference until MSU joined the elite ranks. Here's just a small, quite recent example: I was in O'Hare on Sunday and ran into an O$U fan there, mentioned the game, and he laughed at my wish for a competitive and injury-free game. OK, no skin off me . . . but . . .
You'll have to forgive IU fans for disliking the behavior of O$U fans generally. But that dislike has been well-earned at the hands of a high percentage of O$U fans. Deal with it; we have had to for a long time.
A bit of advice, I would suggest that you look to your coach's example; he might have all the confidence in the world, even arrogance, about his ability to attract and coach great teams, but he's both realistic and classy about his business in his relations with others. He had kind words to say about Kevin Wilson, for example, after a competitive, tough loss to O$U - I believe it was 3 years ago. I appreciated and remember it to this day. But we don't hear anything like that from O$U
fans . . . they think they're entitled, and that entitlement further entitles them to think less of others. Just like Michigan . . . used to . . . and are hoping to again. That earns the "meh" you hear from the rest of the world . . . .
