Dan Dakich has opinions about the hiring of Darian DeVries as Indiana basketball coach

Recker approached Alford first.

A lot of IU fans supported Knight over IU after the way it went down. I was one of them.

Myles Brand fired Knight, not Knight himself.

Alford supported an accused rapist UNTIL Pierce was proven guilty and convicted.

That’s not all Alford did. You get your news from that entertainment network ?

Recker first transferred to Arizona where he discovered Gilbert Arenas was going to eat his lunch for playing time. Then he was involved in that terrible accident and conveniently used that as an excuse to get a special dispensation to transfer to Iowa where his dad lived and to be closer to his paralyzed *cough* girlfriend. That was of course a lie, he didn't give a damn about her and ran around on her all the time at IU before the accident. Recker was a selfish d-bag. Never played defense, never played a minute in the NBA either. Knight's system was the excuse he gave to transfer to a system that was more conducive to his NBA aspirations and what his Fort Wayne Fury handler pushed him to do. His roommate Fife told the truth about him. He couldn't handle Knight, period.
While playing at IU Luke Recker was probably as close to wunderkind as any player post Steve Alford. He definitely blew it. BTW, I wonder how his former IU cheerleader and now wheelchair-bound girlfriend is doing these days. Did she ever marry?

Uh...

Hated by Buckner? What does that have to do with anything. As much as I think that Buckner screwed IU over with the Woodson hire, was he in any position of power back when Alford would have been a possible IU coach? I don't think so.
How do you have any knowledge on Buckner's feelings about Alford.
I didn't read the article because I don't care, so maybe in the article Alford stated that Buckner hated him, which I doubt.

Yes, he is certainly another one and I thought of him but he played several years after Recker. I should have reworded my post to “closest wunderkind to Alford, post Alford” or “our next one in succession after Alford.

Isiah, Alford, Recker, Bailey, Yogi…all five special guards. Some might question Recker’s inclusion today, but during his IU playing days, he was a stud. Am I missing any one, guard-wise?

Bailey "played several years after Recker"? Put that bottle down.

Just give up.

Been brought up many times, but I think the IU/UNLV final four game in ‘87 is a supreme example of it cooking by beating a team everyone said you couldn’t run with, especially with a team of inferior athletic ability. IU 97 UNLV 93.
I remember Knight saying after the game that he knew IU couldn't prevent or slow down UNLV from scoring, so he tried to out score them (and succeeded). As I recall, Joe Hillman came off the bench in that game and seemed to hit everything he shot.

Uh, Buckner and Wilkerson, maybe?

If Hillman scored anything that game, it was free throws.

Recker was ok, not close to Alford or even bailey
Again, let’s get Aj Guyton back into this conversation. Recker was nowhere near what AJ was.

As player
When he left, Guyton was Indiana's all-time leader in three-point baskets (283) and fourth in all-time scoring (2,100).[1] He also ranked eighth in all-time Indiana assists (403) and tenth in steals (128).

Guyton's first year saw him become only the second Hoosier freshman to collect 400 points, 100 steals and 100 assists; the other to pull that off is Isiah Thomas. Guyton made the All-Big Ten Team his sophomore year and the Playboy pre-season All-American Team his last two seasons.

I think your memory might be a little off about the Alford/Pierce situation.

I forgot about AJ Guyton. Upon recall, he was one of those freshmen making a quick start out of the starting gate, recognized early on as a talented difference make.

I am not listening to that.

So in there, there is evidence that Buckner hated Alford?
Or is it just that DD is blowing smoke about it?
Alford is not liked its well known between Buckner and the Pierce incident he was not getting th IU job. The article on Alford was great you should read it.

Pierce anally raped that girl, dude.

I'm sure you supported Knight over IU. You still do. Many of you do.

It's the reason we've never been able to move on.

Knight and Trump sycophants are the same people. Trump dodges the draft and Knight steals the rank "General", and turns IU fans on their own school, just like Trump has turned half on his own country. Division is fun!

When did you graduate IU, abraxis?

They all get their info from the same place - their asses.

Don't let these macho men tell you to get back into the kitchen. Tell them to get over their tiny penises!

“Pierce,” an ironic name for an anal rapist.

Knight supporters were extremely disappointed in the way he was fired. Kent Harvey’s step-father, a Bloomington radio show host “with a penchant for criticizing Bob Knight” was already triggered when hearing of the “assault” on the steps leading up to Assembly Hall. He used Knight’s “nothing burger” teaching moment for his own personal gain.

Trump “the draft dodger” with Knight “The General” causing division? You’ll have better luck finding the creation of division by starting with smug-faced Obama creating racism claims that weren’t really there and never letting up during his eight years.

1973 - I’ve been watching IU basketball since the tail end of the McCracken years. Walt Bellamy is the first IU player I remember cheering for, age 9.

His son will be more curry than anyone we have had in the last 8 years. I don't think there is a single person on this board that doesn't remember the Crean years.
I know I remember beating UK @#1, and two BiG championships.

Anything like this happen lately?

I remember genius posters on here, the 'tan Tommie 'bullshit, which got IU Miller followed by Woodson.

****ing so-called 'fans'...

Petulant, spoiled children....

We weren’t elite under crean, and should not want that back. Many did not think it possible to fall so low, I am included in that group.

It was a thing of beauty.

RMK's offensive philosophy against any pressing / trapping team was to attack. That may lead to more turnovers, sure, but you make them pay with layups and open shots from beating the traps. A good pass out of any trap leads to a 4-on-3. You also draw more fouls. It takes smarts and preparation, though. I can't stand it when teams face a press and get it across half court but don't attack, just let the half court D set up.

If gambling was legal back then, I would have made a mint off of betting the "over" every time IU faced Dr. Tom Davis at Iowa and his press & traps.

People forget that Knight first faced drastic opposition from IU alumni because he insisted on emphasizing defense (which slows down the game) and insisted on getting a "good shot" (which in the days before three-pointers meant either a seven-foot jump shot or layup).

Then. ... Knight's teams started winning with this new boring strategy. Fans eventually came around to it.

If Devries wins a bunch of games, no one will care what system he uses.
If 4 corners won us a championship, I’d be down with it.

The politics are irrelevant. Dakich is a dunderhead and would be no matter where he stood on the political spectrum. I am positive about Coach DeVries but can’t say it doesn’t concern me that Dakich endorsed him. Say it ain’t so Dan.

Don’t worry- Dakich will turn against him at some point

I appreciated Dakich when he came in as the take out the trash guy post Sampson. He didn't embarrass us then, and helped out.
But he is one very strange dude.

Still OK that he likes DeVries. I also mostly agree with his comments 'don't worry about the Hoosier family of past players including himself - just win, and the 'family' will come around and love it.

Both CRMK and Sampson he was creeping around in the termination shadows. Sorry but I don’t think his motivation in either case was to magnanimously ensure the integrity of the sport.

I will have him on in the near future. Trent Sisley on tomorrow.
Jim, until this past October I was a pastor in Pennsylvania. The former pastor of the church I served stopped in and he told me he was living in Santa Claus land now. I told him about Trent Sisley and said, "If he commits to Indiana I will send you an email because of how excited I was". And I did.
