It was a very strong punch but.I don’t know the details. I thought it came when they were facing each other so maybe unexpected but not a sucker punch. I don’t remember Jabbar ever punching someone except for this case.

You never saw Bill Walton at UCLA or Alcindor or Oscar? Is the best college basketball player I’ve ever seen. I’m almost 47…I remember back to the mid 80s… for reference sake.
Durant, Michael Beasley, Carmelo, Oden…better than all of them.
Who did he play for?I remember what Jesus could do at 18. His fadeaway jumper was divine
I believe that McGinnis averaged 29.9 and 15 in his one year at IU.Maybe, but if you are asking me to build the best college team, I am taking CL--and I HATED him as an IU guy. Also have to consider who they played against. Yes this generation of players is more athletic, but back then guys stayed in school longer and they were playing against grown men in college.
Flagg this year 19.0 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 4.3 apg, 48.7% fg, 37.2% 3pt, 83.2% FT, 1.4 spg, 1.3 bpg, 2.1 tpg
Laettner career--16.6 ppg, 7.8 rpg 1.8 apg, 57,4% fg, 48.5% 3 pt, 80.6% FT, 1.6 spg, 1.0 bpg, 2.7 tpg
Laettner senior year--21.5 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 2.0 apg, 57.5%, 55.7% 3pt, 81.5%, 2.1 spg, 1.0 bpg, 3.3 tpg
CL for his career averaged more rebounds, shot better from 2, better from 3, and averaged more steals. His senior year, he shot almost 20% better from 3 on about 1 attempt per game less (97 attempts for CL vs 129 so far for CF). That Duke team also played 14 ranked teams that year, compared to 6 for this Duke team.
Again both great players, and tough to compare in some respects as the game is much different now than in was then
Started with the Bethlehem Donkeys in the rookie league and then called up by the Nazareth Miracles. Got his big contract later on with the Jerusalem PilatesWho did he play for?
Cooper Flagg. A Dirk type scorer with Keith Van Horn's all around floor game? STUD!Yeah...how his game translates up to the NBA will be interesting. I suspect he'll be as good as Davis has been, and better, overall than Zion. Key to that is "overall"... his perimeter skills, offensive and defensive, are what separate him from the crowd, in my opinion.
Okay, maybe elements of a sucker punch but in response to a sucker elbow.
This discussion has been hilarious. Generational indeed. Cooper Flagg would have been guarded by Grant Hill. Leaving alone that no one on this current Duke team could stop Laettner, they also need to contend with the fact that Flagg would be dealing with Grant Hill and probably some Antonio Lang and he would have a very difficult challenge. Then you have Thomas Hill who can match up size wise with Duke's current guards, plus Hurley who was one of the best point guards in the country.Good lord...he would not have. Laettner wasn't a guard, in any way, shape or form. This could be a generational thing...I suppose. Why would Laettner have ever considered bringing the ball up the floor back then? Lots of nuances to this topic.
Yea. Mainly on the defensive end. He is a high level rim protector and none of those guys were considered good defenders. Is Cooper Flagg really doing anything Keith Van Horne or Adam Morrison weren't doing, though? That's not a criticism, by the way. Maybe a distinction to be made is he's a freshman?
So many awesome players over time in college basketball.
