Is the best college basketball player I’ve ever seen. I’m almost 47…I remember back to the mid 80s… for reference sake.

Durant, Michael Beasley, Carmelo, Oden…better than all of them.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Bama’s horses. If they play like they did against BYU I’m not sure that 5 CF’s can beat them

You need to throw in Alcindor, Walton, Hayes, Maravich, Thompson, and probably many more.
Yes.....I left out the Pistol . Pistol Pete's college scoring record was just broken last year by Caitlyn Clark. A record without a three point shot. A guy why practiced every day. Not to digress.....but today's fans are missing out if they don't look back at film on some of these guys.....

I'm older......He's not better than Larry, Magic Johnson or Michael Jordan.....by a country mile. But he's the new best.
I don't think Jordan was even in the top tier of college players, if you're only looking at his college career, stats and accomplishments. Avg 17.7 for his career at UNC and the one NC as a freshman. Len Bias (and a host of others) > MJ as a collegian.

That’s before it became personal

Bird and Magic came to mind... their legends were cemented by what they did in the NBA. We'll see what Flagg ends up doing in the NBA. Quite a lot more size and talent, overall, than when those guys played. But list off the "best"...whatever aspect of the game you want to talk about... and he's in the conversation for it in college, right now. Ball handling, passing, shooting, scoring, on the ball defense, help side shot blocking, rebounding... From what I'VE seen, no one has had all the tools, and the motor to go with it, that Flagg does.

And its not just one game...for the poster that said that. He's done it all year, after being one of the most anticipated college players in recent memory. EVERYONE guns for him, he can't hide... yet he dominates everyone in basically every aspect of the game. Its crazy.

Yeah, the more I've watched, the more impressed I've become. I didn't think they would get far in the tournament running the offense through Flagg, but he was so impressive to me last night handling the ball and passing. I thought a team with quick physical guards could cause him trouble, but he had no trouble with Zona and I thought that was their gameplan. I've just never seen an NCAA champion who didn't have a great PG and dominant guards, but I may this year.

As the old joke goes, the only guy who could shut down Michael Jordan was Dean Smith.

But that neglects Dakich. :p

Even more so than MJ, the guy who really seemed stunted by Dean Smith's coaching was Vince Carter. He came to UNC with a huge rep. First high schooler I'd ever heard of that had a highlight videotape! Good in college, but to me never broke through, then took off (again) in the pros. Half Man-half amazing was mostly just half man as a Heel.

There's no need to seriously debate this, as opinions vary. He's very good and I've seen him play several times during the year. He may be comparable to the aforementioned collegians if he elects to stick around another year or two. Bird, Magic, Alcindor, etc. were more mature. You could also add Christian Laettner to the list.

I've said it all year, back in December he was 17 years old and dominating. Some kids in college are 24 due to Covid and transfer rules and he was always the best player on the court.

Many names mentioned here, all great, none did what he does against the talent and competition he does it against. I would be hard pressed to remember any college player (especially one that is a freshman) better than him and I'm 53 years old.

Really, really good, but not sure he makes the top 5 DUKE players (in college) over teh last however many years. Laetner was a GREAT college player--incredibly unlikeable for non Duke people, but arguable since the Alcinder and Walton days he had the best college career of anyone, Hurley is in the discussion as the best college PG in a long time, Grant Hill was special, then you get the to Banchero's, Flagg's, Dunleavey's, Brand's, Williams's etc.

That said, he has better numbers that several listed, but he also has more freedom than several, and the competition he is facing is less than several mentioned because the ACC is so bad.

All that said, he is really fun to watch, and for the age--just turning 18--he is incredible. If I am OKC, this may be the year I push in the chips with my draft capital to move up and grab him to pair with Chet and SGA

He will be as close to Larry Legend as we have ever seen. His court awareness and ability to see the floor and pass makes him comparable to Bird in the future. He is a tough defender as well.

Shareed Abdur Rahim as a college freshman for an Ncaa Tournament team: 21.1ppg, 8.4rpg, 1.0apg, 1.9steals, 1.3blks.. He should be thrown into the comparisons of college freshman.

The best college basketball player I ever saw was Lew Alcindor, later to become Kareem.
Next was Bill Walton.
Next was Larry Bird.
Next was Magic.

Flagg can shoot, pass, rebound, handle the ball like a PG, guard multiple positions, run the court, and has an enormous basketball IQ. But I still wouldn't put him above those 4

I saw him hit a runner hard off the glass with a lot of spin with his left hand and thought that was one beautiful shot.

He won't be at Duke long enough to accomplish as much as many of the Duke greats... but using Laettner as an example... Flagg is better than him in every single aspect of the game.

This. Don't think I'd put him in top as right now, but as a freshman? Good lord, he's one of the best I've seen. One that doesn't get mentioned much is Chris Jackson at LSU. That dude was other worldly in college.

I saw him in the Denver airport one time after he changed his name and playing for the Nuggets and no sign of Tourette’s and actually seemed like a nice guy.
