FTR, I’ve been OK with Hegseth all along. And I do think he did quite well in his hearing. Even a Dem Senator (Kelly) conceded that Hegseth showed a good grasp of the substantive things.
That said, I’m damn glad that Gaetz flamed out. He’s a complete turd. And I also hope that RFK2 goes down. I really don’t think an anti-vaxxer belongs in that position.
Also, while I’m not really worried about Tulsi Gabbard being in Putin’s pocket or anything like that, I do have qualms about her basic qualifications for DNI.

My qualms about her have nothing to do with the left or what they think of her. My qualms about her have to do with her qualifications to oversee the nation's intelligence agencies -- which is likely going to have many elements within it that don't trust her. If Trump had nominated her to be Secretary of the Interior, I wouldn't even give her a second thought.
There are people who I think very highly of that I would have the same qualms about. Say....Ben Carson. Great human being, would have no business overseeing the IC.

But, whatever her reasoning, I agree with her support. I think Hegseth (a) came off very well in his hearing, and (b) could end up being a really good SecDef. Yes, he's a polished presenter having spent time on television. So he has that working to his advantage. But I just liked the substance of his answers. In fact, I don't know how anybody wouldn't have -- if they can get past the more superficial things about him.
I don't find his grifting of veterans or his abuse of women and alcohol superficial, but that's just me.

Look, if I have a problem with somebody, I won't hold back. That's one of the nice things about being uncommitted. I don't feel the slightest pressure to be predisposed to either supporting or opposing anything (or anybody) put forward by Donald Trump. I'd feel the same way had Kamala Harris won, too.
I think those things are just straws being grasped at. Just something by which to cite as a reason to oppose him. Most of those people have their own share of skeletons in their closets, if we're being perfectly frank. It isn't going to have any kind of bearing of what kind of SecDef he'll be.

I thought that was incredibly rich -- considering what we know about the Pentagon's clusterf*** finances, overseen by all the highly qualified Secretaries of Defense which have preceded the obviously unqualified Hegseth.
