If the rumors are true and Collins, Bennett, and A. Miller reached out to IU (not to mention Greg M. is also available) they would be hired by now or in the next day or two. As of now it looks like the next coach is going to be Alford or Billy D.

Which means the next coach of IU better be Billy D. or Glass made a very poor hire. There are just too many quality candidates ahead of Alford, for it not to be considered a bad hire. If Alford is hired and ends up a dumpster fire like Crean or similar to it, Glass should be shown the door as well.

Disclaimer: If UCLA wins a national title, I get to take back this post:)

I like both Billy Donovan, and Steve Alford for different reasons to be IU head coach. Both are a significant upgrade over Crean. Billy Donovan would recruit nationally and has proven to be an excellent NCAA coach, and was likely in the top 5 coaches in the country when he jumped to the NBA. Donovan would make IU an instant National Power. Donovan and Stevens are absolute Home Run hires. Steve Alford has been a successful coach at every level from watching him at Manchester College in Indiana through Southwest Missouri State, Iowa, New Mexico, UCLA. Alford has recruited good Indiana HS players to each of his coaching destinations. This has continued at UCLA, the first blue blood program he has coached. And UCLA is on the verge of a potential Final Four and NCAA Championship. Alford at IU marries him with one of his greatest strengths, recruiting top Indiana HS players. Alford would be even better at IU than he is at UCLA, and UCLA is a top 5 team that has already beaten Kentucky who they play next to get to the Elite 8. Alford's best chance for national success is at IU. And he is doing very well now at UCLA. Better than Crean did at IU in 9 seasons. Alford has also won Conference tournament Titles . Something IU has incredibly never won. Both Donovan and Alford would be very successful at IU, and recruit the talent necessary to win a National Title. Alford would recruit Indiana HS talent better than any IU coach since RMK.

Why cant it be any of the other 15 coaches still coaching in the sweet 16? Not all of the 15 but guys like Holtman, Sean Miller, or Chris Mack. I won't say Alford is a horrible hire, but we can do better. If he comes here and wins and wins big then most will soon forget the past.
