Coach Cig’s Water Cooler Tailgate: Gotta Light?

Where are all the "did Tennessee belong" stories? The announcers for our game spent basically a quarter asking if the B10 is any good given they play each other, where is that being asked about the SEC.

I agree with the point, there is a question about our schedule. But you can't use Notre Dame to illustrate anything, every team has a bad game.

All four road teams were thoroughly beaten - Indiana by the smallest margin but, of course, Indiana didn’t belong; it’s a tragedy they were included; let’s make it a rule Indiana never gets invited again - so what does that tell you? Maybe the damn first round games, like all the later games in the CFP, belong at NEUTRAL sites.

Or, maybe it should be an 8-team schedule if they can’t figure out enough sites.

I believe that IU could beat Notre Dame four out of ten times sans the home crowd and without the weather as a potential factor.

And, fvck Herbstreit and his Indiana doesn’t belong shit. All you need to know is that he lives near Noodle in Cincinnati.

Lane Kiffin was mouthing off too, even with a go Vols post. He was strangely quiet last night.

The notion that this team was going to compete for a natty was a fantasy, for the reasons you list. Plenty of IU fans, though, got caught up in the moment and forgot talent matters. It's understandable for a fan base that saw Knight routinely put together really good teams that could beat superior talent. But that's much, much harder (maybe impossible) to do in college football today.

IF IU goes all in on football, like North Carolina apparently is, maybe we can get a team with a puncher's chance in the next 7-10 years under Cignetti. But, of course, then it just comes down to outbidding other teams for mercenaries.

College sports is broken and it's not going back.
I think the prior system of haves and have-nots was more broken.

From a competitive angle? Sure. I like the meme that the SEC is struggling now because now everyone can pay their players.

But from an amateur athletics notion, it's dead. Has been on life support for awhile, and maybe dead, but now it's impossible to pretend anymore.

In the abstract, IU didn’t have (apparently) the short passing game (get the ball out quick) concepts ready to go v. Mich, O$U, and ND, when Lynch’s loss mattered most. It’s hard to run stuff that wasn’t practiced. Jackson probably wasn’t going to out run ND’s defenders, who didn’t need to crash to stop the ‘dive’ back.

Rourke is definitely not going to be an NFL player (backup maybe).
Rourke showed enough during the season to get drafted, regardless.
Superior decision making compared to his peers for one.
Outstanding back shoulder placement for two.

Arm strength for tight windows is his biggest question, perhaps.

Does playing on 1 and 1/2 knees change you opinion?

Agree 100%, but you have to actually believe it to win that battle. And I definitely got the feeling that Cig may have believed it, but the players didn't.

Maybe not when Cig first showed up, but by the time we hit UM and OSU, I don't think the players believing was a problem. It was speed, size, and strength that caught up with us.
