Coach Cig’s Water Cooler Tailgate: Gotta Light?

What kind of horseshit intramural team did you have that caused you to punt?

Air Circus. Everyone get open and let's let it go!

No offense to Cortez intended, but it sounds like you needed a few guys that knew how to use their hands to catch a ball. Too many damn soccer players, probably.
Oh no we were excellent. I was also our lock down corner.

I'm fired up for tonight's game. Been sick all week and haven't eaten anything other than soup and fruit. Gonna break that tonight with some chicken thighs on the grill. I'll pour a tall bourbon for the game, although not sure I'll come close to finishing it. Can't jinx the game though. Some things are bigger than the individual.

It’s s*****, btw. But the Court won’t fine you as your heart was in the right place.

Heading to IU to watch the game at Upstairs. If we win, I’ll watch it alone tomorrow so I can hear everything. Want to share this once in a lifetime with IU fans. Hopefully not an ND fan in sight.
So you've just been lurking?

Let’s see. Football talk. In college I kicked 50 yard field goals in 3 separate stadiums with friends. They were empty. I also punted on our college intramural team. The punts were so devastatingly long they often altered the course of games. No one had ever seen someone who could do that and they simply weren’t prepared for a leg like that. Cortez can confirm. He played qb

Shit, even in my son's first grade flag football league, with our backs against the goaline and an inability to throw the ball more than two yards, we go for it. Why on Earth was anyone punting?

Welcome to the inaugural Coach Cig tailgate thread where we pay our respects by beating the sh*t out of the Irish and having a semi-wholesome thread about football, food, beer, music, gambling, juggling, good natured sh*t-talk, and run-on sentences. Anything goes except for politics. Take that sh*t to the bball freebie board.

What you eating and drinking for the big game? We’re having pizza and wings. Beer is TBD.

was still hoping for a Chuck Norris reference

Just because everyone else is playing flag, doesn't mean you can't play tackle. Learn how to send a message. Be bold!

Also, flag is for pussies.
It was definitely far less physical than soccer. I played rugby for a while too in a Sunday league for years. That wasn’t as bad as you’d think either. People didn’t lead with their heads

I’ve got 90 Schilling and Sam Adams Octoberfest in the fridge. Game time decision.

Oh yes, was on a Sam Adams kick several years ago.

A waitress caught me by surprise while chatting with folks at a bar after a funeral. Without thinking ordered a John Adams.

She replied, " We don't have John Adams".

To wit I said, "Suppose you don't have John Hancock beer either".

Said this to amuse the people with whom I was exchanging in idle chatter. They were not amused. Chalked it up to the aftermath pall of the funeral.

Haven't had a John Adams since, or is it John Hancock?

Between dropping my kid off at daycare and stopping at a diner for breakfast while wearing my IU hat, I’ve had four strangers (typically not Hoosier fans) stop me to say they’re rooting for us tonight. One old man said eff the Irish and he roots for any team playing them.
I was out in California from the 5th to the 13th, visiting my FiL, and had my red IU hat on almost the entire time. The number of people that stopped me in the airport and while there was crazy. I usually get a couple of "Go Hoosiers!", but I bet more than two dozen people talked to me about the football team. I had a Michigan fan that talked my ear off at a brewery and when he was done, here came a guy who was a Vols fan and IU dad who wanted to talk ball. Just awesome what's going on right now.

I get a lot of the same thing in Georgia. We’re about 45 minutes from Athens and there are a lot of Dawg fanatics. Kirby Smart has a home in the area. Wearing IU gear I get a lot of “wow, great season, great coach, great story . . . .you still wouldn’t win anything in the SEC.”

So, I say, beat ND and play Georgia in New Orleans. We won a big basketball game there in 1987 . . . with a guy named Smart.

The stars are aligning.

My fondest memory related to IU football wasn't from a stadium. It was sheer joy, in the fall of 87, after watching OSU's darkest day game. Right after the game ended, still carrying a radio with Fisch's postgame commentary, I strolled down Kirkwood Av. high fiving random strangers. Felt like we were Kings of the World.

Keep this thing going. For some reason, my day off is full of me driving around and running errands. I’ll be back prior to game time - I know how concerned some of you might become.

I found this video of Irish fans and a sketch that you might recognize.
