Chris Collins

What Collins has been able to do at Northwestern is nothing short of miraculous.

When Woodson is shown the door, Collins should be someone that Indiana takes a hard look at.
Definately take a look at, but howbhard of a look?... He is a very solid coach for what he's been able to do at NW, but one would think he would take over Duke if something ever happened to Scheyer? Either way, he would do a good job at IU. I agree.

Meh. Three NCAA appearances in 12 seasons? I realize that it's Northwestern but I'm not really buying into the oft-repeated notion that they'd win big here even though they didn't win there. This isn't the 1970's. You can win anywhere today.

He's not getting any younger and I think he's hit his ceiling (NCAA tournament berths) at Northwestern. I think he would embrace the opportunity to coach at somewhere like Indiana.

Northwestern gave UConn maybe their best contest of the tournament last year. I have to wonder how their tourney run might have gone last year if Berry hadn't been injured.

3 round of 32 in 10 years.
81-134 in conference play
8 games over .500 overall
Finished 10th or worse 7 out of 10 years.

Only compared to Archie and Woody would anybody give this guy a second thought. There are guys out there who have consistently finished at the top of their conference and would excel with our $ and facilities.

That said, I had to laugh last night when the camera caught him smirking after Mbako got torched on D for the umpteenth time. Then he looked down towards Woody and you could almost hear him thinking, "I can't believe this idiot hasn't yanked him yet."

I think Hummel said something to the effect that NW was targeting MM on defense every chance they had.

I wonder what Collins thought when Woody doubled down by putting Reneau in again the start a NW 21-4 run.

IU could do (and has done) a lot worse than Chris Collins. His ability to develop guards who can not only score, but get the ball to the open man, as well as getting his teams to defend at a high level is evident. X and O-wise, we saw exactly who they were attacking time and again last night and IU was helpless in stopping it.

While it may not be the NU Admissions Office of the 80’s and 90’s, he still has to deal with a much smaller pool of potential students who can get into school than any other coach in this league. Not a lot of 4* and 5* Woody-type recruits can get in there. Without looking at any star ratings, I imagine their avg star rating is not higher than 3.2-3.3, or so. What’s IU’s currently? Probably 4+, I’d say. Supposed other highly difficult schools to get into like Duke, UVA, UM, Cal and others make plenty of exceptions that Northwestern does not.

He may not be the initial home run hire (you know, like all the experts told us Archie was) folks around here desire, but I really think, having played at Duke, being a coach’s son, he would “get it” what IU basketball means to fans, the school, the pressure the job brings etc. His enthusiasm is just like his dad’s without Crean-like creepiness.

I’m on record for Pearl or Otzelberger, but as we’ve long learned, we often can’t get the shiny new prize. Besides, maybe there is room for another CCC at IU? Just my .02.

Is this where we are? Any mediocre coach on a heater against us with Woodson at the helm is deserving of consideration because "we could do worse"?
And we’ve done so well over the last 2 decades hiring bigger names like Sampson, or Crean with Final 4’s on their resume, or the young up and coming home run hire in Miller, right? I already said I’m on board with Pearl or TJO, who are more likely gettable than…

Brad Stevens, Billy Donovan, Jay Wright or some other huge name that people around here are delusional in thinking IU can get. It pains me to say it, but the brand ain’t what it used to be. A lot of coaches want nothing to do with this gig.

Anyone discounting the job Collins could do at IU don’t know ball.

At the EXTREME minimum, we’d be consistently decent to good. And potentially much better.
What get an assistant to run their thug defense, and recruit Boo Buie. What else has he done? 51% winning percentage. Only making the NCAA three times ..

WTF are you taking about, he's trash.

You people are delusional. Chris Collins has a better resume than our current coach. Annnnd Collins will have a better resume than our next hire.

And yes, we could do a ton worse. And, we will.

Welcome to Nebraska Football kind of delusion.
You may very well be right. But after the CIG hire, I have renewed faith in Dolson.

You seen to have pretty informed opinions, I'm curious who you like for our next hire?

You can't possibly think Collins is good enough for the IU job because he's undefeated against Woodson. Seriously?
I can possibly think ANYONE is better for the IU job. I’m not lobbying for Chris Collins. I’m lobbying for a coach that can do better than 0-5 vs NW.

Yes. This is where we are.

Unless you logically think a Brad Stevens or a Bruce Pearl is gonna come save us.

This is where we are.

I’m not saying it’s Chris Collins, but our next coach is right around that level.

How many names passed on Kentucky… ? Exactly. Louisville hit Jack pot with college of Charleston. We shit the bed with the FIU coach. Those are the likes of our next coach.

His family would execute him if he tried to move them from the North Shore to Bloomington.

Sampson is a good coach, no arguments. He took himself out by not following the rules, or he'd probably still be here. Crean did well when he had talent. If he'd had today's NIL and portal environment, he might have had pretty consistent success.

It would be a major disappointment, to me, if Collins is IU’s next coach.

I don’t believe his ceiling is very high.
It would depend on his ability to recruit. He is a good coach in close games. He gets his players to really play hard. He recruits shooters and players who gel together.
Officially he has the 2nd highest winning percentage in NW history and has easily the most accomplishment.
In comparison, Bill Foster, who some may remember at Duke before NW, was a complete flop there after having several strong Duke teams.

Give NW Martineli, Barnhizer, Kaufman-Renn, Kelel Ware, and Boo Buie. That is very close to what he could bring in at IU. He is a smart guy, has excellent play calls but also gives his guys some space kind of like Izzo does.
I wouldn't say Collins would be my first pick, but I think he could win a conference title or 2 at IU.

I appreciate your take. I still feel the same way about him.
