In his second season at Texas Tech Chris Beard went to Elite Eight now in his 3rd season they are ranked 14. Bob Knight disciple. There is such a blatant attempt by this administration to cut all ties with Knight. So yes you can win big in your second season. I guess Chris Beard was left with better players.

On the surface, Chris Beard looks pretty good. But he's never stayed anywhere long enough to prove he can sustain a culture and a program. Maybe he can, but that hasn't been proven yet.

There's a reason that the most successful coaches in the country have struggled their first 2-3 years at a school. It's because they know that long-term success relies on changing a culture and building a foundation for future success. That requires different skills and a different commitment level than coming in and winning with somebody else's players, and then taking off for the next job before the bulk of your own recruits are playing significant minutes.

How about Bill Self? He’s just been playing with Roy Williams players for 15 years? I don’t think anyone on this board expected a great team this year, but good lord they are looking at losing 8 straight. I think most people would have been ok with what Izzo did his second year 17-12 9-9 fringe NCAA but went to NIT. We aren’t even going to make the post season at this rate.

I assume he is going to get hired by Texas ( he is an alum) either after this season or the next. Shaka is on the hot seat. They just lost to Georgia team who will be lucky to finish above .500. He’s just another example of a mid-major coach who couldn’t win at a power 5 (I thought he was an elite coach). Sadly, for Archie fans, he coached in the same conference and had more success than Miller.

Mark Few 26-9 sweet sixteen first year at Gonzaga. This entire it takes time narrative is not necessarily correct, but if that makes you feel better well ok.

Well, how about Bill Self. He's proven he can sustain a program. And "Roy Williams players (sic)" were, just maybe, a little bit better than what most coaches, including Archie Miller, inherit when they take a job. Roy Williams wasn't fired because the program was losing games or declining, remember? And Tom Izzo, even though he struggled early, replaced a National Championship-winning coach who retired.

It's too bad we have a fan base where this stuff is now way over most people's heads. Nothing like the Knight era where we were recognized as having a highly basketball-intelligent fan base.

I’m tired of excuses like many here. We heard them for 9 years with Crean. As I’ve grown older I’m becoming more of a believer in what you see is what you get and more often things don’t change.

Here’s another Rick Pitino dumpster fire probation Kentucky, 2nd year 14-4 conference 1st place not even eligible for post season. I guess Archie has a harder job than that.
Yes, I'm sure Pitino did it the right way. Why don't you apply for AD and hire him? I'm sure you're well-qualified.

What you seem to be tired of is intelligence. Sort of like half the country.

Again, Mark Few didn't take over for a fired coach. But if making invalid comparisons make you feel better, well ok.
Ok how about Roy Williams at UNC. Now was Doherty FIRED yes or no? What did Roy Williams do in his second year there. NCAA title. Happy now.

Want another Joe. Was Mark Gottfried fired yes or no. Keats new coach 1st year 22-12 ncaa tourney this year ranked 20. I can keep going and going.

Yes, and that roster was loaded. Doherty just can't coach. But I'll give you that one. So, you think we hire Roy Williams for next year?

Keats is much like Beard. Good start. Get back to me in 3 or 4 years when he proves he can sustain it with his own recruits.

Please, keep going. Maybe you can come across something that proves your point sometime. Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn.

And another Thad Matta took over for FIRED coach Jim oBrien. 1st year 20-12, next season 26-6.

Moving the goalposts typical. How about Bob Knight you give me that one? 2nd year final four.
I'm not moving the goalposts. You just don't understand them. I agree, typical.

Look, you're claiming there's all these coaches that come in and have immediate success at down programs, and then are able to sustain it. I gave you Pitino. Slime ball and cheater. I gave you Williams. Presided over illegal benefits at Kansas and academic fraud at UNC. Knight is retired. We're not hiring any one of the three. So those coaches, while you have arguably made a point with them, you've made a moot point.

What would make more sense to me is if you show me someone you would hire right now who came into a situation like ours, won right away, and then sustained it. It just doesn't happen, almost ever. But that's sort of what Archie Miller did at Dayton. Please, show me someone else that would be available to us that fits those criteria. Won right away, sustained it for years, available to us. Those are the 3 goalposts. You set the first one. The other 2 are just common sense.

Listen I want Archie Miller to succeed, however I’m not going to be spoon fed a bunch of garbage that says it make take 4,5 or 6 years, because that is not true. If you are willing to sit through another crappy season fine.
Apparently you have no response to my question. I'm not the AD, and neither are you. So if you're not willing to accept Archie Miller as the coach for a while, then don't. You're more than welcome to keep spoon-feeding yourself the garbage that we need a coaching change. I'd be willing to bet you're not going to get one.

Is this a joke? He hasn't had many chances.

We know what we have in Archie. It’s very clear now.

Why not take a chance on someone who could actually be the guy?

Next year will be Archie’s last I’m predicting.

Who exactly do you think IU would get as head coach if they fire Archie? I don't think big name coaches were exactly lining up to take the job the last few times it was open. Truth is, IU got very lucky with Knight; he was 11-13 the year before IU hired him at Army. EVERY head coaching hire since has been less than stellar. I'm not giving up on Archie though I couldn't be more disappointed in the last six games. He has a good class coming in that will be very good if Brooks commits. He certainly deserves more time.

Come on Dayton has always been a successful program. I like Archie Miller I probably would have hired him, but at the same time I’m going to be realistic
If he doesn't make NCAA this year and next he will be gone.
How are we going to make the tourney next year??? What’s your starting five. It’s like you have to hope Franklin, Hunter and Davis are studs. What team goes to tourney starting 3 freshman that isn’t named Duke or Kentucky.
