Obviously Edwards can be a lights out shooter. He was ridiculously hot during the tournament. Is he big enough to be effective in the NBA? His defense isn't anything special. He kind of reminds me of Frank Mason III when he was at Kansas. Thoughts?

Height is always going to be an issue. Carsen hasn't really shown any PG skills yet, but that wasn't his role at PU. That being said, somebody will draft him after the NCAA's, and his stock isn't going to get any better. He will get his shot.

Id rather draft Romeo on his potential....not...honestly if I were a GM...I think Id pass on Romeo until the 2nd round...and let someone else take that questionable gamble

Agree that his stock won’t get any better than right now. I’ll be interested to see how high the projections go over the next few days. I saw a couple that were updated pre-UVA game and they had moved him up to end of 1st to beginning of 2nd range. But I would not be surprised at all to see him move up into the mid-twenties at least. UVA’s Hunter is thought of by scouts as an elite wing-two guard defender, and Edwards ate him alive. Scouts seem to be looking at him as an off the bench “microwave” scorer kind of a player. I’d take him with the Pacers any day. I think he can guard fine - given his strength and the additional physicality of the NBA. Plus he won’t be carrying the same offensive burden. He is an excellent ball handler and his playmaking would probably improve with better players around him. And I don’t want to see him any more against IU!! I still cringe over that left handed dunk in AH.

I think somebody gives him a shot. He is a shooting guard who will be guarded by defenders just as quick as he is and three inches taller.

Agreed. Kemba Walker is legit scoring machine in the NBA. I think he's 6'1 or 6'2. Not sure Edwards height. 5'11 ?

He reminds me of Billy Keller with his range and quick release.

His scoring reminds me a little of Vinnie Johnson who was on the Piston teams that won back to back titles in the 80's.

Height is an issue on the defensive side of the ball, but I don't recall his jumper ever being blocked.

Nothing left for him to prove at this level. Isn't he supposed to be getting his degree this year? Already went through the process last year. He gone....

Hopefully he goes pro. Get him out of West Laffy.
Like the old saying, "Be careful what you wish for", Purdue is going to be a much more balanced and experienced team. Even this season, when Carsen was struggling to make shots, Purdue continued to win games.

The next man up IMO is sophomore to be Aaron Wheeler. Good outside shot and super athletic. Most athletic Purdue player I've seen in a while. This season, Purdue's freshman and sophomores logged in a lot of minutes. Purdue even had 4 freshmen on the floor in the Tennesee game. Add in junior to be Haarms, sophomore to be Williams and Hunter. They are going to be much improved. Sophomore to be Stefanovich is billed as the next Dakota Mathias. Lastly, Nojel Eastern, junior to be point guard. Another athletic player and at 6'6" is going to be hard to
defend. Even with no jump shot, he is able to get to the rim or post up smaller guards. I see another B1G championship in the making...at least.

That is cute, take it to the PU board.

I'd pick Edwards as a back up guard. Energy and scoring off the bench. Why not? Kid can score.

Personally, NV hopes he goes to the NBA now! I'm tired of him kicking our a$$ every year.

"You guys started the Carsen Edwards thread, I didn't."

That's fine, but posts about how PU's role players are going to be world beaters next year probably should stay on PU's site.

Well, I don't give a fig about PU's role players and how PU isn't going to miss a beat next year, and I'm guessing 99.99% of people on here feel the same way.

If Carsen Edwards stays he risks tearing his ACL. Then he may never have a NBA career.

Edwards biggest drawback to playing in the NBA is his height.
Since he’s not going to get any taller, he should/and will leave early.

Wheeler, Eastern, Haarms, and Williams aren't role players. Then throw in Newman, Hunter, and Stefanovich. Hopefully, Gillis is healthy enough to contribute. They may not be the 5 star one and dones, but they are good 4 stars.

Gillis is a solid if undersized front line player with nice spin moves and baseline jumper.
Newman is a good shooter and competitor.
Good recruits for Purdue.

That’s one way to look at losing the heart of your team for the last three years.

If IU was capable of shutting him down he has no chance of being effective with NBA talented defense.. Wish him luck regardless.

Browsing the Purdue boards, Nojel Eastern's mother posts on there a lot. She is indicating he may be looking at the NBA this year. He put his name in last year without an agent.

Cline is gone. Edwards likely leaves also.
There goes PU's offense.

And I bet you said the same last year; I know I did with what they lost. I thought with only Edwards they'd be very 1 dimensional and struggle to score. Great year for them, and watching Wheeler and Hunter, I think you can see he's working on plugging holes. They may surprise again next year. I honestly didn't think they'd make the tourney this year.

Hope not for his sake. He's turning in to another one of those feisty PU role players, but let's not get carried away.

Purdue will be inexperienced like IU next year and even younger if Eastern's mom decides he is ready for the NBA. He tested the waters last year and I thought that was a joke. Will he do the same this year?

Players don't just get better by coming back. Several players will have to step up to replace Edwards and Cline.

Any rumors that Painter will use his career best result to extract more money as je did when the Mizzou job was open? There are a lot of programs looking for a coach. I am curious if they will be proactive or wait to see if schools contact them for permission to speak with him. I think he could recruit better at another school, but it would take money and a good environment to make it happen.

I think Painter stays at Purdue for a long time, probably the rest of his career. He'll get some offers, but I think he wants to stay home. Just my opinion.
