Can someone remind me why so many of us old timers joined Peeg’s back in 2001?

@Eppy99 ^^^this^^^

I "joined" way before Knight was fired - but it wasn't "Rivals" yet. Hell, it was still "dial up" sign in tones!

I was a football guy first, only for a long time.

My first "bookmarks" on my first computer were Intellicast radar, the Indy Star IU page, Peegs hoop site and Bruce Strom's football site.

It's been a long slide since then.

Remind me, what was Bruce’s background?

Does anyone want to know why I joined peegs?

This peegs guy sounds like a dummy.

Although given the last 7 years, I'm not sure Crean would have done worse.
He got everyone paying him monthly like cult followers for his morsels of made up inside information. He was pretty savvy. If memory serves he had an mba from UF. Honestly getting all that going then was something. Pretty fwd thinking

Peegs was stuck with a business model that required the IU admin to like him, but also required him to earn advertising and subscription money off a bunch of unruly fans whose sometimes asinine comments were read by recruits and families, not to mention players and coaches themselves sometimes. So he didn't let us really say what we actually thought about Crean. It's probably one of the reasons the OTF gradually died out, because a lot of the posters who really drove that forum ended up going elsewhere so they could rant about Crean without limitation.

Edit: At least, that's one possible explanation of one particular cause. However, we all know it is gospel truth that what really killed the OTF was the end of Thread View.

He didn’t want to ruffle any feathers at IU, at the risk of losing any access and incurring any wrath from the university. Thus, you had to be careful with any criticism.
Some things never change

You were single and too cheap to pay for match.com? Honestly, I commend you for being a visionary. Your only competition was Zeke and there are a lot of sexy dudes on here. 3 of the Dream Team members were back up dancers in Magic Mike.
😆

I think Peegs used to be on the IU swim team.

He stiffed me on a T-shirt. I invited him to a table I got for a Cam Cameron pre-season luncheon, because I wanted him to give more coverage to football. SOB shows up, eats his lunch, tells me he'll send me a t-shirt, and leaves. I'm still waiting on my t-shirt. lol

Truth. I got a note from him one time, telling me he was kicking me off because people in the Athletic Department were pressuring him to do so. I was pretty critical of the FB program at the time.

Seems like years ago we’d all cram into the recruiting chat at night. Was that Monday nights? The space where all the “good stuff, offline info was found”. Members were so jumpy to make conclusions on what Mike said. It felt more like a circle jerk than anything (not that I would know)!
Monday night at 9 o’clock I think. Forgot actually I also went to Texas Tech to see Bobby break the record with RMKFan and a few others.

I remember a get together where some of Kyle Hornsby , Dane Fife, and Kirk Haston’s were all there. They all read and posted on the forums.

Yeah - I feel like I might be in the group that pre-dated peegs on the Indy star board. I went to peegs for a long time. There was a spell where Smeagel ran a board that looked a lot like this one, and that went away too.
Was Indystar before Peegs or did they run concurrently? I was on both

I feel like the Indy star boards were first, but they required a fee or something so people migrated to peegs.
May have had to subscribe to TSN to participate in the forums, which I would have done anyway.

The oldest forums I recall were the AOL shitshow that ran horizontally at the bottom of the screen

In the 23+ years I’ve been on this site I’ve only met one person and that was @BradStevens. Awhile back @twenty02 and I discussed meeting up at Deviate brewing but that never materialized. Btw, BradStevens is a stand up guy and is as thoughtful a gent as his posts reflect.

@Marvin the Martian

You see this? Is Brad a bot??? Eppy is saying he's a real person. Maybe Eppy is also a bot who bot Brad coded up real quick to throw a diversion.

What is going on right now????
