I think we want to get the ball inside but I don't see anything but our bigs trying to post up and our guards simply incapable of making an entry pass....??? I hear we wanna play inside out but we can't seem to get it inside. I see little to no movement away from the ball. There are feeble attempts at a pick and roll but that just seems to bring an extra defender to the ball. Don't see many back cuts. Have wondered if we could play a high/low game with TJD and JB but that doesn't seem to happen.

One of you guys smarter than me please explain what our offensive philosophy is what we are trying to do to execute it, PLEASE.

Not sure what offense is but it hasn’t changed in 2 1/2 years, never even ran plays for Romeo last year.

There has been one change made to the weave. It still starts with 3-out,2-in, but instead of the perimeter players dribbling toward each other for a hand-off, now they pass to the other player, then move toward each other for a pick-and-roll. What seems to often happen is the the player who rolls toward the basket is cutting into the space where one of the 2 interior players are posted up - cutting to an occupied post. And the help defense, the posted up player's defender, is already in position to defend it.

Earlier in the season we were running a motion where there was a staggered cross-screen for a player cutting from the weak side toward the ball on the wing which then became a downscreen for one of the screeners to cut up to the foul line area. I don't think I've seen that in the last few games.

So far it looks like once going inside starts working, we stop going inside and start missing 3s.

It’s too bad that the IU team that showed up to play FSU didn’t hang around after that game.

Our offense is like a man chasing the wind.

I don't know what the Offensive Philosophy is. But here is what i see.

1. We don't get good spacing no matter what we run. Too many situations where 2 Defenders can defend 3 of our players due to the spacing.
2. When big guys work hard inside to get open, and the Guards don't get them the ball at the time they are open, if at all, they tend to get discouraged and may not work as hard to get open. then you end up with the Guards pounding the ball into the Floor, until the shot clock is ready to expire and last one holding it throws it toward the basket.

3. Underneath, we get movement side to side, but I don't see enough movement of big men from bass line up the lane to the free throw lane to create space vertically. Brunk is a decent enough passer to work effectively from the High post, but Jackson- Davis is a bigger threat because he can pass shoot or drive from that position.

In fact, we should do some of this with our guards, instead of just running laterally 25 feet from the basket. Run them down through the Lane to the Base Line and back up to see if we can move the Defense and get somebody open.

Yeah, when they start the Weave, I start to heave.
The list of good teams and coaches who use the weave either the dribble or handoff version is endless ..Izzo, Rupp, Brad Stevens, Self. Golden St under Kerr, Thad Matta.. etc etc etc etc ..

It was once a staple of motion offenses though RMK didn't use it. We aren't using it much this year as the previous two. It was once known as the Indiana Weave because of Dean and McCracken. We used to start practice with it, it's a good way to get everyone in step.

You guys sound really stupid .. it's hard to understand how some people watch this game for years and still don't know the simple basics...

I'm pretty sure they all have a word bank of about 20-25 terms they plug into sentences: weave, heave, duck, chuck, and some legitimate terms like pick, roll, cut, etc. It's like an idiot's version of basketball mad-lib. No knowledge of the game required.

The weave works if you have three players who can run it and read the floor and options. But when you have three guys running a weave who do nothing but dribble the ball horizontally 20 plus feet from the Basket and simply hand the ball to each other, you don't accomplish anything.

The Globetrotters have an awesome weave. I've seen them put the Senators away with it countless times

You know, you may be onto something there! If we can't get anybody open, maybe just have Devonte heave it backwards from half court, at least that would be an open look, or maybe have Rob pretend to tie his shoe, stick the ball under his shirt and walk it down and pull it out and hand it to TJD for a surprise dunk. That would be fun to watch at least!

Tony Hinkle was fond of it, too. Our Jr High icoaches in Indy taught it to us as the “Butler Weave”. FWIW, my 9th grade coach was Steve Alford’s uncle (his mom’s brother).
