Why is Warren having our secondary play so conservatively? I don't get it, this isn't the Wilson years and we have the guys at corner now (two of whom are all-conference talents, and one being even better than that), so why are we playing 8 to 10 yards off the line of scrimmage on almost every snap like we're worried we're going to get beaten over the top on every single play?
We let Idaho's QB complete like 75% of his passes on underneath throws and quick outs that we just handed to him, and then turned around and did the exact same thing for Cincinnati. I can't even count the number of times in those two games where the other team just got a quick 8 yards or so on a throw right off the snap because our corners were treating the receivers like they were either prime Megatron or had Usain Bolt speed. And again, we don't need to do that! Our corners are capable of locking dudes down and proven it, including (ironically, with all else that went wrong) against Iowa, who at the very least has more talent on the perimeter than f*cking Idaho.
It needs to stop, and the defense needs to get back to its aggressive roots. Our performance so far isn't on the defense, I'm not saying that, but we're going to need more out of it to win, and it is capable of providing it, but not by using the soft scheme it has so far.
