Can someone explain the Carlyle T?

He gave the ball to the other team, dude threw it back at him and a T on KC?
I think it was partly because of the goofy "steal" Rice had done earlier. Either toss the ball to a ref or their inbounder out of bounds or just set it down at the OOB line if they don't have someone there. No reason to risk a tech tossing it to any other player or swatting/tossing it out of bounds. But, it was a teachable moment in an exhibition so not a big deal.

What is the rule here? I have seen guys Teched for throwing the ball to the ref, throwing it to a guy on the other team, maybe just setting it down? Can't remember that one though.

Maybe I answered my own question. If you catch after scoring you are suppose to just put it down on the end line?

Carlyle was assessed a T for delay of game... his second.

Earlier in the game he was assessed a warning for what was perceived as not allowing the opposing team to promptly put the ball in play. The T came when he again was assessed the delay for not allowing the opponent to promptly put the ball in play.

On both occasions I thought they were overzealous calls, but I wonder if the NCAA has made it a point of emphasis this year. At least that is the way it seemed to me. I think they want players to just leave the ball alone after made baskets.

Rule 4, Section 17, Delay.
Art. 1. A delay is any action that impedes the progress or continuity of the game. Such actions include, but are not limited to:
...
f. Attempting to gain an advantage by interfering with the ball after a
goal
or by failing to immediately pass the ball to the nearest official after a whistle is blown (See Rule 10-3.11 and 10-6.1.m);
Art. 2. One team warning shall be given for each of the delays in Rule 4-17.1.d through g. Each warning shall be reported to the official scorer. Thereafter, a technical foul shall be assessed for the delay that has previously received a team warning.

I think the 100% sure thing to do and not touch the ball after your team scores.
