Building an Ath Dept

Today, there is no dipping into the university's funds. UK Athletics, unlike most schools' athletic departments, splits money from the sale of licensed merchandise 50-50 with the university, when most of it, let's face it, is sold because of athletics. UK gives back to the university with its media and naming rights deals. Recently, athletics committed to funding nearly two-thirds of the $100-plus million Jacobs Science Building.

IU football needs to make a major coaching hire to jumpstart the program

You don't think there has been progress in the program?

From what I understand, recruiting is at an all time high. TA has laid out high expectations for the program and he has the second highest winning percentage since WW2 for his first two years. It would appear to me that the program is trending upwards. Of course, it needs to translate to wins but at this point, I don't have any reason that it will not.

I have to say, you are unfortunately reaching fepaugh levels with your rants about the football program.

The program is in the best state it has been in since Mallory. Instantly being a top 20 program doesn't happen just cause you throw money at a program. You are talking about, historically, one of the worst major conference football teams in the country. Be realistic. They are on the verge of being a competitive program. That's about the best you can ask for in that division without flat out cheating. IU will not become OSU or UM in football.

Disagree. We are so far down the pecking order, and building a football program has so many more levels than bball, a big name hire would be a short term solution and they would be gone from here as soon as bigger names started calling. I was suspect of the TA hire, because it was just promoting an asst, and yet again, didn't seem like an exhaustive search was done. But, I believe the only way we can have sustained improvement is to take a gamble on someone who builds from the ground up, which TA seems to be doing. At this point I think he's earned the right to see what he's building goes, but it does feel like a more stable and improving program at this point to me.

I will give Allen time. He is IU's coach and I will support him. But I am very tired of a lifetime of losing IU football, and the sadness of losing every IU football game that I have ever attended. And the endless ridicule at work from Purdue alums who ask me every year if IU has dropped football yet, due to lack of interest, while laughing.
