According to my AI source the B1G Conference does indeed do revenue sharing and Indiana may even get a little extra to cover the expenses of the CFB Playoff game.

I'm happy for Ohio State (dodges various tomatoes, some lobbed more skillfully than others). They have been a Top 4 program for the last decade. They haven't lost much but when they have it has been used to invalidate their program. As if winning it all were an easy thing.
Well, they finally have validation. People who don't like them (they are legion) won't be able to just waive their hand to dismiss them any more. I wouldn't be surprised if they get a couple more. But this format is freaking brutal man. Imagine successfully running that gauntlet more than once.

I didn't think Day had ever beat Michigan? OSUs last win vs Ohio State was back in 2019. IU has beat UM twice since the last time OSU beat them, let alone Day.

Just think, IU played every member of the championship teams from the last two years; is IU the championship making team. I have to wonder if 2025 is the year for IU to take the next step in the play-offs.
why does the ACC put up with that? either you're a member in all sports or no member at all.

It pains me to say this but ND is in a league of their own. Rockne, “win one for the Gipper,” Rudy, Touchdown Jesus, the fight song, their longtime NBC deal, etc. Iconic brand.
For sure, the B1G and SEC wouldn't do that but having ND half in the fold gives the ACC enough credence to stay atop the 2nd tier conferences.
With that said, the B1G and SEC will soon force NDs hand. The choice will no longer be up for ND to decide because the alternative will be playing in a lower tiered level of college football.

I thought about this. the big got money from each of the 4 teams. We made the big ten 3 million, Oregon and PSU made 4 million each. It might be 6 each. So 35 million to the big. So 2 million each.
Not only have they played the participants, they are .500 against them.
Sure but ND only gets 1/3rd of what Big Ten teams get in TV money. So we are still way ahead.

According to NBC, who pays them, their new deal is 2x of what they made in 2023-- which was $22 million. So their NBC deal is now $44 million from NBC. $44 +$17 + $20 = $81 million. They only get the 20 if they make the title game. If they just made the first round that $20 mil would be $4 million.
So ND will get $65 million most years if their historical performance is maintained.

Exactly. ND fans and those who have grown up understanding why ND has stayed out, aren't understanding the change in landscape. I have no doubt ND would prefer to stay independent but when the B1G and SEC add a few more large and geographically necessary teams, they will separate from the NCAA and isolate the league to just their conferences. It could be up to 48 total teams (24 in each). The money disbursements and value retention are going to require that to happen.
It's at that point in which ND will be offered the option to join into a conference within the alliance (B1G or SEC) so that everyone is on an equal footing, or else don't and be left playing whatever schools may still have programs. Their TV deal will disappear, so it won't be an option for ND to choose from. Plain and simple. Their leverage is going to get yanked away but until then, they will carry on.
Their schedule is already under pressure.

I read an estimate of a $53.5 million profit for OSU from their merchandise in the 2023-24 athletic year - on Eleven Warriors a while back - and with that monstrous 550% spike, what's so hard about a 9-figure profit for the 2024-25 year?
Walk around in any airport in the U.S and it won't be long before you spot someone in Buckeye gear. Texas is the only school that can come remotely close to them. People talk about the profit-revenue for the Playoffs which is pocket change for OSU
Because it has to make sense in the context of the OSU athletic dept financials. The most recent OSU AD financials had reported revenue of $280M, they spent $275M of it, leaving a $5M profit. This is fine, schools usually spend most of their revenue.
Of the $280M revenue, royalties/licensing/ads/sponsorships was $43M. Royalties/licensing (merch) is somewhere in that $43M number, they don't break it out from ads and sponsorships.
Last time OSU won at national title in 2015, OSU said their merch royalties increased about $3M from the previous year. So maybe this year they make $5M more from natty title merch, nothing like $40-50M. Keep in mind, the 550% increase was just for a three day period, not all year.
OSU is the biggest program, but they're not that big. I'm not sure where you got some of those numbers.
That could happen, but I doubt it.
For one thing, the BT & SEC just want to dominate the other leagues (ie..ACC & Big 12), not kill them. Effectively killing them off will kill the golden goose due to decreased national interest.
For another, going to 24 teams each dilutes the TV $. Each addition has to bring in a certain amount of $$ for it not to be a negative. And its not clear even programs like Clemson & FSU add and not subtract.
For another, neither the BT nor the SEC are that thrilled about adding even FSU & Clemson. the 2 biggest possible additions on the field. SEC because its already got 9 programs that think they deserve to win the NC each year.....so why put competitors FSU & Clemson on equal footing?? The Big 10 because its not clear that an 18 team league, let alone 24, will remain intact. There was at least history and academic missions in common with the PAC 4.....there's nothing in common with FSU & Clemson. And their fans would not want to join the Big 10 unless there was no other choice, as they will be isolated.
ND can't contractually join any conference other than the ACC until 2037. But they won't be frozen out in the interim. The SEC doesn't want to force them into a league because their natural league is the BT. The BT can't force them because with ND the ACC and Big 12 become stronger. Also, why would USC, Purdue, Michigan & MSU want to stop scheduling ND?
What concerns me more as an IU fan is the possibility, down the road, of a 32 team conference that dumps IU, Purdue, Illinois, NW, Minnesota, Rutgers, Maryland, Mississippi, Mississippi St, Vandy, Kentucky, et al......if the likes of OSU & Michigan get tired of supporting us.
