Brooks' decision coming soon

Getting Brooks means Romeo is gone, which has always seemed to be likely, but getting Watford too would likely mean someone else will not be with the program. Only speculating, but I imagine that any signs of a 4 man class unfolding before the end of the season could only mean someone is no longer able to play with the team which would point to one of 2 guys.

I hate to say it, and there is no other way, but trading Morgan and Romeo for any 2 players is a no win proposition for next year. Better in the long term, but for next year it doesn't necessarily improve anything.

Morgan was going to be gone and Romeo seemed 90% likely to be one and done, so there isn't really anything better than trying to get really good players in return. But that is only the case if TJD stays for his sophomore year.

Brooks looked fantastic against CG at the Southport Shootout.
I've seen Brooks play for 4 years at FW North and now at LaLumiere, and he has never looked better than he does now, long, athletic, skilled, and under control.
Brooks would fit perfectly with his AAU Teammate TJD at IU and form the nucleus of a great team at IU. And Brooks' friends and family could easily attend his games at IU.

You have to take Brooks regardless. Romeo is falling down draft boards and won't recover to his previous lofty position with his shooting. I think it's gone from near certainty to just likely. If Brooks wants to come, we'll take him regardless if anything is known about Romeo. That can be worked out later. Unfortunate, but I commend Archie for not running guys off and trying to honor the schools commitment. Not something that would have happened with our former coach. With Archie I think Durham, Moore, and Green might not be on this roster, but he reached out and kept them all and is making it work.

Durham will be here, Green will be unless we land Brooks and Watford

I heard that the extra scholarship is coming from Davis who intends to be a grad transfer after this season is over.

That is surprising.

I don't recall any 4th year grad transfers.

Losing a talented senior would be a set back. Also, there are no schollies currently available so 2 departures would be required.

I don't want to lose players. Having a veteran team seems farther away next year than this year (which is pretty young already).

Austin Etherington transferred after his redshirt sophomore season and had 2 years of eligibility left when he went to Butler. He graduated in 3 years.

Hope not. I like Davis. Just a shame he's been injured so much. It also seems like he struggles with conditioning. Love to see what he could do when fully healthy, healed and in shape!

We need Brooks also we need some shooters today against Michigan it would be nice to have some 3 point specialists.

i agree. davis giving us 25 healthy minutes a night would really change the outlook for indiana

I have not seen Jerome Hunter play but heard he is very good what about Race Thompson its been two years now kinda worried 2 years not playing might hurt him.

Ok, good point. Crean always pushed them out. I wish i could ask him why he did that.

Archie is no dummy. He knew he needed those guys for depth at the very least. And it’s not like they are scrubs. They are good players, and if they work hard and continue to improve, each of them could be high level contributors before they leave.

Heard it from a source I trust not revealing who they are but the called Rob’s commitment, Franklin’s commitment, TJD’s commitment, Tuttle coming to IU and DeBord retiring days in advance before anyone else was discussing it. So imo they have credibility but I guess only time will tell.

Losing Morgan, Davis, McRoberts, Fitzner, Romeo, and anyone else would set IU back another year. If any of next year's recruits are one and done then it sets IU back 2 years.

Uh-huh.

Just WHY would Davis want to transfer? He won’t have a better opportunity anywhere else.

If anyone transfers, it would likely be a younger player IMO. I seriously doubt Davis would transfer before his senior season. Anything is possible, but I can’t see any top tier programs using two years of a scholarship to get one year of play out of Davis. Not a so much a knock on Davis’s ability, the dude is just injury prone.

DC is saying that Davis will be a grad transfer which means he wouldn't have to sit out for a year.

Without Davis or Morgan, IU will be incredibly easy to score on inside. Freshman TJD is not nearly an answer to that.

Keeping Davis should be a high priority (along with getting him healthy).

you don't have to reveal a name, just a vague reference to their position which provides insider knowledge. people are always claiming to have heard something here when it could be from someone seated across the bar

Yeah. Davis is leaving a school that has no viable centers to go play.....somewhere......that does? This is nonsense.

Don't be so gullible. My gosh people.

green is running out of time to prove it

Wasn't Ziesloft one??? I doubt Davis leaves though.

To be fair 6"7 Juwan Morgan at center trying to avoid foul trouble hasn't exactly been Mr resistance at the rim either. Davis since the injuries is essentially just an offensive post scorer as well. Our 2 point defense in the paint is not good this year for that reason.

TJD once he puts on weight at 6"8-6"9 will be fine. He's a pretty darn good shot blocker/rebounder already and has an improved post game. We will also have good size/athleticism around him with 6"7 Smith and likely 6"8 Brooks. Not to mention an improved 6"8 Forrester and 6"10 Moore. We'll be just fine either way.

I think Davis does a pretty good job of contesting another team's post, if he's a post player. He can body with guys, it's if they can take him out on the floor that he becomes more of a liability. I'm guessing he's not well, or he'd have been in there yesterday. I think he should be in our starting 5 if he's healthy so he can contend with the other teams center and provide that 3rd scoring option.
