What? The Purdue coaching staff is budgeted the same as last year, except allocated differently. 4 mil for coach, 6 for assistants. Was other way around last year. Purdue was never paying 8 mil for a coach, + a 10 mil buyout, + 7 mil for assistants. Not many colleges would.

You don't think they could have gotten someone like Kane Womack who is having a great year at South Alabama? That move would have ticked off a lot of IU fans including myself. I was shocked PU went with a coach with zero HC experience. Same with ND last year.

And Bob Stoops and Brett Bielema (Wisconsin) and Ryan Day and and Kirby Smart and Dabo Sweeney and Pat Fitzgerald, et al many HOF coaches went from coordinator to Coach at a young age.

Not necessarily. Existing HC experience or no head coach experience isn't necessarily an indication of success. Every coaching hire is risky, regardless of experience, where they are going, etc. For all we know, fickell could be fired in 4 years and walters winning 8 a year.

Do your homework. It is quite common for highly regarded coordinators to excel as first time head coaches. The list is very long.
