On at 730 AM this morning on Moremax Cinemax channel. Hasn't been on in years that I know of. Great movie filmed in Bloomington and to me one of the ten best films in the last 50 years . Worth a watch if you have the time.

Late seventies. Tenth Street Stadium lots of IU scenery including quarries campus Union. Where the real life Cutters bike team took their name.Never heard of it. When was it made?
thinking that was TIC, but I try and watch it every year or 2, although I need to try and get a recording of it stored. They didn’t do the race justice IMO. When I went to my first little 5 Sr year HS it was so much bigger and more of a major event than the movie had portrayedthinking that was TIC, but I try and watch it every year or 2, although I need to try and get a recording of it stored. If you are an IU fan, definitely something you need to watch if you haven't. And the chica is hot in a late 70s sorority sort of way.

You must be being sarcastic, no?Never heard of it. When was it made?
Peter Yates was the director. Was Townies the working title?I do know a bit of trivia from my pledge days.
who was the Director
what was the working Title for the movie.
IU fan gets both and I agree with everything you say all day.
As a kid I remember going to the Little 5 race at the old stadium, and fireworks on the 4th of July. I also might be somewhere in the crowd shots during the race in the movie, though I've never been able to spot it so maybe it didn't make the final cut. There were not really enough people there during the filming, so they had to keep asking people to move around to create the illusion of a full stadium.Peter Yates was the director. Was Townies the working title?
They we’re doing filming on campus my first year there. Hard to believe there was a stadium there when you see that part of campus now.
I didn't believe I was in the race, but I also had a drunken biking accident on campus. Crashed me and my GF, now wife, on the way home from Wilkie to Collins. To big a 10 speed, but it was a used Trek and so I didn't care, figured a good deal, but turned out bad for usI got so drunk one year my friends convinced me I was in the race and needed to bike to the race from about 1st and Jordan. Fell off the bike numerous times and arms were very bloody, but I made it. Asshats didn’t let me in the race tho.
It may have been cutters then, but a more apt term now would be stonies or methies. Have you seen 2nd and Walnut recently? It is definitely not your typical bumming smokes crowd. Dangerous and serious deranged drug addicts. On a lighter note, It's almost implausible to me that someone that is an alum couldn't have seen the movie though, yet seems there are many, like how? I figure they must play it at IMU sometime before L5 every year, how could an alum not know of it, baffling, but maybe I am getting old.Movie may have coined the term "cutters". A term for the town folks. When I was there in early 70's " stonies" was used. Movie makers may have thought it was too derogatory.
The derelicts at 2nd and Walnut are not working in stone quarries, I can guarantee you that.It may have been cutters then, but a more apt term now would be stonies or methies. I totally agree, but it's turned from a homeless thing where it's just pot and bumming smokes to dangerous. We moved out of Monroe, but I still get taxed as if I live there cause I work there still. Can't believe the city has such high tax rates and doesn't do anything about the crime and drugs that are right next to downtown. Seriously, every single year, we get a federal tax return and pay state taxes because we don't live there anymore but I work there. Well OK, fair enough if that's the rate to work there, but what are the people that do live there paying exorbitant city taxes for?The derelicts at 2nd and Walnut are not working in stone quarries, I can guarantee you that.
How can anyone on here not know about Breaking Away? In my mind even had it been made with the same story anywhere else about a similar smallish college town, it is still an all time classic . I realize the story line had to be about Bloomington but just a great movie. I think if you are rating Indiana sports films it is a better movie than Hoosiers by far.You must be being sarcastic, no?
Yeah, I'm serious, maybe this is a wheat from the chaff moment, come to Jesus. You can't tell me where the quarry's south of town then automatic 1 year ban, Cav could probably make it happen. Celebrating statues to a fictional Star Trek character that's supposed to be from Btown? They want a real character out on their bike trails that IS actually from Btown, maybe they should consider bronzing Diamond Dave Roth first! And anybody that doesn't know why Janeway was bronzed or why Diamond Dave should be deserves consideration for permanent ban.How can anyone on here not know about Breaking Away? I have many stories from that quarry and rooftop. First time I tried it, I was a bit unnerved when I got up there and took awhile to get my courage up. Shortly, a well endowed young lass came up and asked if she could jump first, and being gentlemanly (Ladies First!), I said of course. She said "I hope you're not seeing anything you've not seen before!" and promptly removed her straining bikini top and jumped with it in hand, knowing it would have been ripped off when she hit the water. She then deflty put it on when she surfaced, and of course, I was right there to witness, having suddenly found my courage and inspiration!I was joking.
I've swam in those quarries. My buddy used to jump off rooftop.

I believe a young Dennis Quaid was in this film. It is an interesting movie with some very funny moments.Never heard of it. When was it made?

I have others, several also involving breasts... but that's my fav!
PS, I knew you were being TIC. Noobs... (rhymes w bewbs)!
I have a blue Ray of space, yep one of my favorites. Never seen breaking away, but it does ring a bell. I thought Brian Cranston was in it though? Isn’t it on AMC?Sounds great. I love Dennis Quaid. Inner Space is his best work.
I'll keep a look out for this Breaking Away film.
I'm curious about your comment regarding county taxes. According to this site, every county that neighbors Monroe has a higher County Income Tax than Monroe.I totally agree, but it's turned from a homeless thing where it's just pot and bumming smokes to dangerous. The working title was 'Bambino'
My neighboring Brown Co. has one of the highest tax rates in the state. It's also one of the poorest counties. Monroe Co may be able to keep their tax rate down due to their downtown parking meters. What a cash cow that is!I'm curious about your comment regarding county taxes. According to this site, every county that neighbors Monroe has a higher County Income Tax than Monroe.

Yes….. Dennis Quaid and also Daniel Stern, the taller bad guy in “Home Alone”. 😂😂😂I believe a young Dennis Quaid was in this film. It is an interesting movie with some very funny moments.
Don't forget the cocky frat guy and biking competitor. He was the cocaine-sniffing guy in Diehard that was after Bruce Willis' wife. It didn't end well for him in that movie either.Yes….. Dennis Quaid and also Daniel Stern, the taller bad guy in “Home Alone”. 😂😂😂
oh….. and the “Bad News Bears” kid.
