Every NCAA loss the last 3 years…mainly in second halves.
And then against the vaunted Anthony Leal and Myles Rice duo in Bloomington.
I do love Smith, outside the Purdue part of it obviously, but he isn’t likely gonna lead them to a natty. Not nearly good enough on both sides of the ball. Especially when he’s standing next to Loyer who’s even worse defensively.
You might want to look again. 6 points, 3 assists, 5 rebounds. He was serving up turnovers like the Pillsbury Dough Boy.

I did look again. Smith went 16-14-3-3 and 23-9-5-2 in his two games vs Rutgers. Still don’t know what PSY is.
Overall sure. Typical stat stuffer game. Didn’t score a point in 2nd half…did have a bunch of assists though. But Houston “took him out of the game” late in that game. And they took advantage of him defensively.
I corrected the PSU (y is the character next to U, so sorry). I also mentioned the wrong "Ace", I meant Baldwin. 6, 3, and 5.

He didn’t score a ton because they were double teaming him. Idk about you, but I was taught that if you are being double teamed, someone is open.
But hey, bet you thought smith was a reach, Edey wasn’t an nba guy, smith would be bad without Edey, and still think Heide would have started next year.

Ope. Ya, found purdues one bad game last year. Good thing the best PG in the NCAA is allowed a bad game. Right?
He's an All American... he's a really damn good basketball player... but he's outmanned physically, at times. The chances of that happening increase exponentially the further in to March they get. And surrounding him with guys like Loyer, and not having a rim protector of any kind... Again... glad they didn't spend all that money on guys that will actually address those weaknesses.
And Houston blitzed the ball screens, like 90% of all college teams do...Smith handled it "fine"... again, he's an All American for a reason. But they lost. And his defensive issues and lack of scoring were contributors to the loss...like they have been historically against teams like Houston.
I miss the days when players would stick around because of the program or coach. I hate what NIL has done.
Jacobson isn’t a rim protector? Cluff is a rebounder. Cox and Harris are solid perimeter defenders and 40% 3 point shooters (looking solely at big ten play for Harris).
“Guys like Loyer” implies they have more guys like Loyer on the team. Not sure who else is “like Loyer”. Feel free to tell me whose “like Loyer” and how.
Didn’t feel like defense was an issue last year. Rebounding was this teams biggest weakness. They held Houston to 62. The national runner up needed a last second shot. I bet I can find a message from you saying they’d beat Purdue by 20.
Purdue has only improved the roster. And if Meyer comes, another ball handler. Love it. There is a reason Purdue has the second best title odds right now.
One bad game? Are you serious? I recall a game in February where his line was 8 (on 2 for 8),5, and 2 with 6 turnovers. They lost that game by 15. Wasn't that a bad game as well.

They're gonna be good. They're gonna look like a good Purdue team. Without Edey, history tells us that won't be good enough to be a legit threat at a Natty.
Guess we will find out. I’d bet they are. They looked like a sweet 16/elite 8 team last year. And they haven’t gotten worse. No reason they cannot win a natty next year. Get a little lucky and who knows what happens. Takes talent and a little luck to win the tournament.

Could argue Purdue had some bad luck vs Houston. Couple missed looks, a call goes the other way, who knows. But it’s hard to argue a team like Florida or Houston didn’t get a little lucky in the tournament. Especially Florida.
Would loved to have seen that Purdue team with Hummel in the tournament.

They didn't though. They looked like a mid level B10 team, if that, the last month of the season. They beat a couple double digit seeds. And while they did play Houston tough...they lost. And when looking at the landscape of the entire season and tournament, it was obvious Houston just had an off game. They missed A LOT of open looks in that game. Their perimeter defense was uncharacteristically poor. Purdue caused some of that...but Houston openly wasn't at their best that game... and Purdue nearly caught them for it. But they were not in any way, shape, or form at Houston's level. By that mentality, IU was better than Purdue last year. That sounds absurd, for a reason. So does saying Purdue looked like a S16 or Elite 8 team.
1? Try 8-9 bad games. What was in common? A lengthy guard who shut his a$$ down.
I don't charge much and I do not identify as a cat anymore I still haven't chosen my pronouns as of today.
