Brad Stevens not a candidate

Time to let the white whale go. I think IU basketball is dead and buried. There is no Cignetti equivalent coming to save it.

Jeff Goodman reporting Brad Stevens is not a candidate for IU job and has zero interest
Technically...he forwarded on something he heard from sources from another source. I don't think there's a direct quote from Stevens saying he has zero interest in IU job, or that he isn't considering it. Just that he's happy in Boston.

Get ready for Randy Wittman, folks! IU is not a destination job for top coaches. Bob Knight was Indiana basketball. The program died when he left. There is nothing institutionally that creates an environment for coaches to have success, unlike a Kansas or Kentucky.

Get ready for Randy Wittman, folks! IU is not a destination job for top coaches. Too much pressure and not enough payoff.

I want to start by saying that I never believe Brad Stevens would be the next coach at Indiana. But the quote that Jeff Goodman used is very interesting. if that is actually what Brad said, it is a very noncommittal quote.

That’s not true at all. The only thing that IU lacks compared to other top-level programs is the right coach. There is nothing preventing IU from getting a coach the caliber of Jon Scheyer, Hubert Davis, Mark Pope, or the 2018 version of Dan Hurley.

The institutional ineptitude of the administration is what holds IU back. The administration hired bad coaches. The administration neglected facilities upgrades for too long.

Not shocking. Has been out of coaching for 3 years and out of college coaching for over 10. The perennial favorite of all ”Name” college programs going through a coaching change. Time to strike him from the list and focus on viable candidates

Randy Wittman, Steve Alford… ??? WTF.

Jeff Goofman puts out a tweet and you people fall to pieces like little girls.

Highest NIL in the BIG, talent rich geography, bleeding fan base. Duh. Just an adequate coach has this rolling again.

Don’t you understand?! This is proof that IU is not an attractive destination for top level coaches. Stevens is just waiting for a destination job to open like UNC (oh, wait), or Duke (oh, wait), or UK (oh wait), or L’ville (oh wait), or UConn in 2018 (wait, that’s not it, either). Is there a destination Stevens is waiting to open up?

And what institutionally does Kansas and UK have or do that IU does not?

Or do you just like to bitch?

Hubert Davis, Matt Doherty, Billy Gillespie, Steve Alford, Chris Mack, and Kenny Payne have all been hired by what many consider destination programs.
All those coaches except Kenny Payne had success at the schools they got fired from.

Due diligence starts with getting turned down by Brad Stevens...and fortunately....for the last time. IU doesn't need to kiss the ring any more.....Two things haven't happened since RMK was fired: IU hasn't hired the right coach and Brad Stevens isn't coaching at Indiana. When Stevens said IU was his dream job....he was taken way too seriously. A compliment isn't a marriage proposal. Now hire the best available high level coach who wants the job.

Elite facilities and an administration that knows how to identify and hire good coaches.
He asked what do other schools have that IU doesn’t. IU has elite facilities. UNC identified Doherty and Davis as good coaches. UK identified Gillespie as a good coach. L’ville identified Payne as a good coach. Archie, Crean, and Sampson all had better resumes when IU than those coaches when they were hired by their respective schools. I for one would not want UNC’s or UK’s or L’ville’s administration to choose IU’s next bball coach.
