I like Brownell met him great guy Indiana guy but digging more into the numbers 5 out of 15 years not making the tournament is bad. He'll under Woodson and Archie Crean we made it 6 times to the tournament during those 15 years.

A bit dramatic??? IU would kill for the results he has had at Clemson. Not saying he should be the coach either but it wouldn’t end the program.
Maybe a bit dramatic but I do think the next coach gets a shorter honeymoon than ever before. We're going to demand results in year one, or year two at the latest.

4 of 14 years making the tourney and a .520 conference winning percentage. Yeah sign him up now

If he takes Clemson to another Sweet Sixteen or Elite Eight this season, the hire would be a little more palatable.

Again, if you know the situation and resources at Clemson, the fact that he's matched or exceeded what a program with all the resources of an IU, is actually pretty good. He's at a backwater school in the might ACC competing with the likes of UNC, Duke, UVA, and still has a better than 50% conference win % (assuming your stats are correct), is pretty good. If I were to pick a B10 equivalent to Clemson, I guess it would be MN or PSU. He may not be the guy, but he'd be on my list to talk to.

Clemson actually has an awesome campus and fan base. Do agree though that it was tough to crack the hierarchy of the ACC in his timeframe there

I visited it with my son and it's where I'd have gone, if I was choosing (looked at USC, Clemson, NC St, App St, etc...). But, I'm not a high level bball recruit likely black and from an urban area. If you are, it would feel like the sticks and redneck as hell. You can still get some recruits, but a bunch just aren't going to consider you because of reputation, history, and the locale, and the higher level the recruit, the less likely you are to get them. And, yes, they have great fans.... for football. Like I said, within their fanbase, basketball rates behind Football, spring football, intramural football and baseball. I'm only half kidding about intramurals.

Dan Hurley made it out of the first round just twice prior to winning a national title. His 13th year as a head coach. In 6 years at Rhode Island and 2 at Wagner, he made 2 tournaments, second round losses in each. Our fanbase would have wanted him fired in year 4 at U Conn. Jay Wright had a similar trajectory. Sometimes the right guy is one who gets the most out of limited talent, which might not translate to a sparkling tournament resume. I’m not endorsing Brownell, yet he was very competitive when the ACC was strong as hell.
