Boiler Up

You need to to re-read my post...

I don't think we have Any shot at winning unless p u thinks of this game as a "Tourney Tuneup" and finds a way to Choke it away (which they consistently do every Tournament)...

I hate when I have to explain my jokes...Are you a female by any chance? 🙄😞😖😎🙈
It was just a general response. It was not in regards to your post. But I do think they can possible hang for one half but the other half purdue will torch him by like 20.

If we seriously want to have a chance of winning there we need to somehow build this up as something tantamount to an NCAA first round game... A true "tune up for the Tournament"...

Our D would look stellar due to the toiletmakers having a difficult time getting a shot up with both their hands wrapped firmly around their own throats...

(Or...., we perhaps could just change our name to Farleigh-Dickinson South for an evening)

Now That Would be "Pressure"... 😉🤣

I don't think Woodson ever does that. No reason to worry. He still thinks its an 80 game season. No such thing as a must win game.

I don't buy that there's much pressure on Purdue. They know that if they play hard for 40M IU will fold. If by some miracle its a close game with 10 minutes left their coaches will tell them 'keep the pressure on. They will collapse"'
Pressure was the wrong choice of words. The original comment was who has more to play for? I say that's clearly Purdue who is still in the B10 conference race and is playing for a high seed. We're out of the tourney picture and all a win buys us is more bubble talk. That's not much to play for.

The upcoming Friday night game against IU is a game Purdue wants to win. It is a home game that would damage Purdue's B1G title quest should they lose. In today's ESPN Bracketology, Purdue is a 2-seed, so a loss would likely drop them a line, but that while not desirable isn't terrible. It is a game against an in-state rival that Purdue would very much want to win for its fans.

Having written that, in order for IU to make the tourney, they need some big wins. At present, they are listed as out. A win in a nationally televised game would help a lot. Plus, it would make a fanbase that is somewhat despondent (simply read this thread or board for that matter) very, very happy. I see the upside for an IU win much greater than the upside for a Purdue win which to me correlates to greater pressure on IU as they need it more.

As for the OSU loss at Mackey Arena: the loss occurred because Purdue fell apart in the second half. They gave up a rather large lead and shot very poorly in the second half. Shooting percentage is highly correlated in a positive manner with fatigue. In the 10 days or so preceding the OSU loss, Purdue had road trips to both coasts of the USA. I attribute the loss to the extensive travel. This is not unique to Purdue. Illinois, Michigan and Iowa have been upset in games shortly after their West Coast trips. So I chalk OSU up more to the novelty of more travel and the resultant fatigue than anything else.
Purdue has the added motivation of “0-66” fresh in their fractured psyches.

As for the travel excuse used in blame of Ohio State’s upset in Mackey, I predicted this excuse would be heard.

You may well have predicted it but that doesn't mean that it is false. If it was just Purdue that experienced a loss like OSU, it could be considered just an excuse. But it wasn't just Purdue that it happened to, As I pointed out, other B1G teams experienced a similar outcome after their West Coast trips so there appears to be a positive correlation which suggests causality. IU has not made that trip yet, but they will after that your view may change. And it is fair to point out that Purdue's West Coast trip came right after an East Coast trio; that is something that the other B1G teams didn't have when they lost.

Increased travel beyond what was traditional, and reasonably close, is new. To pretend it is not a factor is wrong. By the way, the travel effect is greater on the new teams as they have to travel more and I believe that it hurts them even more.

Purdue has everything to lose? Lol what a ridiculous statement and not even close to reality. No Purdue fans are nervous about this game either from anything I’ve read. But if you think you have enough talent to come into Mackey and win, throw some money down on it and make a few bucks.

He didn’t predict they’d win so why would he bet on it? You need to read what he wrote.

That game is prominent, likely occupying 1st place, in your consciousness but you are a member of a miniscule minority. It borders on an obsession for you that borders on the humorous. But have your fun, it really doesn't matter. There was a time when Purdue fans were upset by that outcome, but those days are long gone. Have at it.
Ok, will do. You can never live down the worst loss in the history of sports. People don't forget.

Here's something more current:

Sadly I hope my Hoosiers lose by 30 on Friday at Purdue. National TV. Anything to get rid of Woodson
Anyone who roots for Purdue to beat IU does not get to refer to the Hoosiers as “my Hoosiers.”

If Indiana is ever successful again, I’m not sure how you’ll occupy your time. Seems like with nothing to complain about you might go insane.

This game all depends on shooting. Purdue is capable of lighting it up - if they do it could be rough for Indiana. If it's a tough shooting night, it will be a pretty close game. I'm not sure Indiana is a good enough shooting team for a runaway in Indiana's favor. Anyway, through the decades, this game can be pretty unpredictable. I suspect a track meet at times.
